You should be able to change out the shower head. I've always done so for my rentals (and purchases).

Here's what I just bought today for my house: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004NXT3TE/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i02?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Make sure you have teflon tape to seal the connections: http://www.amazon.com/Mr-Gasket-2842G-Teflon-Tape/dp/B000BWCFT6/ref=pd_sim_hi_1

And if your new shower head is still anemic, check to see if you can remove the flow restrictor. (The cheaper ones usually don't, and are the simplest way to obtain higher water pressure if that's all you're looking for.)

Previous shower area was around 30 years old. Fake marble walls, small wall niche, leaks in the corners and ugly plumbing.

Over the course of 3 weeks (had to go housesit elsewhere - we only have one bathroom), we gutted the old furnishings down to the studs, built a new niche, added backerboard, waterproofing membrane, new tiles, new fixtures, and had the tub re-furbished (by a pro).

If anyone's curious, here's some products we used.

Backerboard:

We learned as we went with this (also made many mistakes that thankfully aren't too bad on completion). Upon gutting the shower - found a bit of mold growing on the old green board backing material. Was actually better than expected. We also didn't want to swap out the old 2 knob faucet for something newer (required more plumbing work than we wanted) so we ordered a 3 knob version and just used two of the knobs/stems. Works great.

And a ton of knowledge from this incredibly useful YouTube channel.

The 396 gph version isn't much more expensive. To keep from using too much ice, you could start by letting the pot rest on its own for a few minutes (try a hop stand!), then switch to cold tap water through the pump, then switch that out for ice water. The key is just maintaining a high differential between the wort and whatever you're cooling with.

Another option -- and this is a little off the wall -- is to use your shower. You could switch to a handheld shower, get a diverter, or get a showerhead with a splitter that would let you easily swap in your wort chiller. Handheld showers use a pretty standard 1/2" thread.
