Trying to get a new Graphics Card, its between the 480 8gb or 1060 6gb (both are ASUS STRIX ROG OC)

According to GPUboss, 1060 is better... but minor differences dont matter to me... 480 is $50 cheaper then 1060.... need advice, since i wont be upgrading for another 4 years.. atleast and current budget is $350-$400 CAD

Link to graphic cards in mind:

ASUS ROG Overclock version: RX 480 8GB or 1060 6GB

EDIT - Thanks all... 480 it is then.

I have the 8gb model (my flair) and it is phenomenal however i recommend getting a 3rd party one because the rx 480 temps are around 60-70 on the reference cooler, i recommend this rx 480

Rx 480 8gb would be a very nice yet semi-affordable (200-250$ish) [ASUS ROG STRIX Radeon Rx 480 8GB OC Edition DP 1.4 HDMI 2.0 AMD Polaris Graphics Cards STRIX-RX480-O8G-GAMING https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01J3TZJOA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_5UU5yb6WWN0MK]
card that can get very high fps in 1080p with ultra presets on most games.

u/fuqqqq · 2 pointsr/buildapc

SSD is too small. Windows will be like 20GB, modern AAA titles are like 40GB each.

You could get a microATX case to fit your microATX mobo. For PSU, pick a cheap one from a more reputable brand, like evga or corsair.

You could save some money on the gpu. rx480 4gbs are known to dip into the $170 range on sale. If you want something that lasts a bit longer, you could go for a 8gb. This one is amazing, and $228 after rebate. Same price on newegg, in case you can save the tax by buying there instead.

Here is what I ended up going with:

u/Adrenalinez · 1 pointr/buildapc

The rx480 is slightly better than the 1060(also better for dx12 in the future), you can get the 8gb version for 245$(I saw some way cheaper here so look for sales youself, I don't know US-prices):

Any reason I shouldn't get the [MSI Radeon RX 480 Armor 8GB for $209] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M4J144F)?

Or should I just spend $15 more ($224) on the ASUS ROG STRIX Radeon Rx 480 8GB OC

Alright did some more research. $219 XFX RX-480 TRUE OC 1288MHZ TRIPLE X seems like a better fit. I don't want a really long card I have room for a 300mm card like the strix but I'll have a lot less room to cable manage and have free air flow. And I like that I can swap fans in and out. Also Jayz review kinda sells it.

I'm definitely going for a RX480 with 8gb ram so is there a different board partner version I should buy?

Alright my man sorry for being late w/ this build but I'd say its a pretty big improvement. The GPU is on sale rn for 189.99 on newegg but it ends in 9 hours

-Ryzen 1500x already comes with a cooler that you can overclock with

-Increased RAM to 3000Mhz 16G. Higher RAM speed noticeably improves Ryzen processor's speed. Sweet spot is at 3200Mhz but thats $20 more if you're willing to spend

-7200 RPM Western Digital HDD. Now I had to DECREASE the storage to 1TB. Hopefully this isnt a dealbreaker

-Better power supply w/ more wattage for $4 more (its on sale!). It's also fully modular. Link to the sale down below

-RX 480 is a better choice for this price range. Snagged the Sapphire Nitro 8GB version which was a plus. The sale for this ENDS in 9 HOURS. Also BEWARE this is NOT the Nitro+ version. If you're willing to spend anywhere from ~$230-$280 for a gpu you can get better versions. Or wait for another RX 480 to come on sale they usually go down around $200-$210

- The ASUS ROG strix RX480 8GB is on sale right now for $210, but it is too big to fit into your case. You would have to get a different case, different gpu (the models from XFX, MSI, and ASUS Dual rx 480 all work), or downgrade to a 4GB version.

-If you're getting a monitor, get a freeysnc monitor for gaming. You can get a 144hz 1080p monitor for ~$200.

- Acer XF240H- 144Hz 1080p ($200)

- AOC G2260VWQ6- 75Hz 1080p ($100)

- Asus ROG strix 8GB version (is too big to fit into your case FYI): https://www.amazon.com/STRIX-Radeon-Polaris-Graphics-STRIX-RX480-O8G-GAMING/dp/B01J3TZJOA/ref=sr_1_2?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1491980768&sr=1-2&keywords=rx+480

Sorry for the wall of text :/
u/matty1053 · 1 pointr/dayz

This is what I have: https://www.amazon.com/STRIX-Radeon-Polaris-Graphics-STRIX-RX480-O8G-GAMING/dp/B01J3TZJOA/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1496717230&sr=1-2&keywords=rx+480

My friend has a 1060 6gb in his PC paired with a i5 4690 (just the 4690, not overclock version), and he gets over 90 fps. Only once he dropped below 90, since he was in Cherno, and there was an 'event' going on. Having over 40 players in one small area isn't a good idea performance wise.

The card is more than $200, if you want a decent performance you will spend more. Just spending the low budget won't do much for this person as I said.

Especially if you want dayz at a comfortable rate.

u/Grizzled--Kinda · 1 pointr/buildapc

I would go with this below. Looks like it's 245 but then you are able to send in a $30 mail in rebate making $215 for a pretty good card. Mail in rebate ends on the 28th

ASUS ROG STRIX Radeon Rx 480 8GB OC Edition DP 1.4 HDMI 2.0 AMD Polaris Graphics Cards STRIX-RX480-O8G-GAMING https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01J3TZJOA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_e6iSybDN6NKE8

u/In_Love_With_SHODAN · 1 pointr/buildapc

Yeah, that's true. Definitely stick with the 480.

Well... if you stretch a little bit you can go for the strix, which is $290.

https://www.amazon.com/STRIX-Radeon-Polaris-Graphics-STRIX-RX480-O8G-GAMING/dp/B01J3TZJOA/ref=pd_sim_sbs_147_7?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=RDVX45A6CCDBD3R3VTP5

I personally love the design of the strix(have one myself), but I understand that it's a little bit over your budget.

In that case the XFX is an option, though it's only slightly cheaper.

https://www.amazon.com/XFX-1288MHZ-BACKPLATE-Graphics-RX-480P8DFA6/dp/B01J8CCUL2/ref=sr_1_5?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1473738298&sr=1-5&keywords=rx+480

Otherwise you could look into some nicely factory OC'd 1060's. I hear good things about that card, and it would include some more options for you at your price point.

u/stoopid_idiot · 1 pointr/buildapc

Definitely go with a 480 instead. Here is the same brand you have picked out only its a 480 8GB version. https://www.amazon.com/STRIX-Radeon-Polaris-Graphics-STRIX-RX480-O8G-GAMING/dp/B01J3TZJOA

There is really no reason to spend more for your CPU than GPU if you're mainly using it for gaming. You'll be bottlenecked by your GPU far sooner than your CPU.

*Sorry totally forgot you were in Canada I heard the 1060 will probably be cheaper in your location

u/Sparkling_Soap · 1 pointr/buildapc

Get this one instead, I thought the MSI Gaming X was still 250 dollars.

https://www.amazon.com/STRIX-Radeon-Polaris-Graphics-STRIX-RX480-O8G-GAMING/dp/B01J3TZJOA/ref=pd_lpo_147_bs_t_2?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=8Z76D5HF9P0M1XCS4P1H

Its better than the MSI actually, I just never suggested it because it's overpriced. But with the sale its very worth it if you don't want to get the R9 Fury.

u/ButtFaceMcPoopSmith · 1 pointr/buildapc

I'm thinking of this one: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01J3TZJOA/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pd_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=2F6Z2KUYSNYNK&coliid=I3GY0IKSIQP0X0&psc=1

I assume it will be a little noisier because it's got 3 fans, but as long as it keeps cool and doesn't sound like a lawnmower engine I'm good with it.

When I hear things like that it doesn't run dx11 as well as a 1060 it scares me, but honestly I've hardly ran into much that my current gtx 680 can't run on. New games (Skyrim SSE and Star Citizen) need to be turned down, but most other games I can run medium to high.

Honestly the main games I'm really looking forward to with this new card are the new Mass Effect game and Star Citizen. I know SC is aiming to use dx 12 and Vulkan, so I think I'm pretty much sold on this card.

u/numbA8 · 1 pointr/buildapc

For just gaming I would go with just 8gb ram. 480 is a great choice imo, you just may want to go for an 8gb model if you can find a good deal, something like witcher can use the extra vram to get better textures. This deal on amazon looks good with a MIR

I don't know much about Kabylakes but it seems that the 7500 is around the same price as a 6500, I assume the performance is better so seems like a good call. The psu is overkill. You could get away with like a 450 watt 80+.
