I think your best chance with your crush is to separate your self-education on trans questions from your (hopefully) budding relationship with her (good luck). If you try to learn about trans people through her, she might feel on the spot / awkward and that doesn't go well with romance.

There are a ton of websites and books you could read, but I'm going to suggest Becoming Nicole just because I read it lately and really liked it.

Yes, Nicole Maines (of "Becoming Nicole") plays Nia Nal aka Dreamer. They're handling it pretty well. They're upfront about her being trans without making her "The Trans Character." They mention that her powers are passed along "genetically" which I wish they hadn't but it's such a small trip up on an otherwise great character.

Thank you for coming here. Please recognize that transgender is a real thing and that not dealing with it can lead to a incredibly difficult life down the road.

Many of us here first knew there was something amiss as early as 4-6 years old. Back then we didn’t have the resources or the understanding that are available today.

Transgender is a biological discordance between the body and the brain. In utero the sex characteristics of the brain and body develop at different times. In the case of transgender individuals things don’t go as planned and as such can have a brain that is mapped partially or fully for the opposite sec of the body.

Growing up we recognize various things that just don’t align with our physical gender.

The best thing you can do is to help educate your friend and to help them to find a gender therapist. Below are a few resources to help.
