I've owned a Beeman similar to this for years. Being able to switch between .177 Cal and .22 Cal pellets was always tons of fun for me. It can even be used to take small game. What is the price range you're looking at?
So can a Beeman air rifle, at approximately the same effectiveness, with muuuch cheaper ammunition. If your goal is to have something to hunt rabbits, consider this:

A .177 pellet at 1200 fps will take out most small game. Might not do a possum.
I bought one because I'm not allowed to discharge a firearm within 100 ft of a right of way in my municipality, and I needed to keep rabbits out of my garden. Legal definition of "firearm" doesn't include air rifles - chemically propelled projectiles only.
On the flipside, if you're talking about survival-math, calculate how many pounds of rice you can buy for the cost of your 10/22 and ammo.
One great positive of the 10/22, though, is you can take it to Appleseed. One of the best rifle training programs in the country IMO. You can meet lots of politically diverse folks there too.
