Your best bet is to get the active Benfei adapter for $8 off Amazon.

It can’t do RGB at max resolution but if you set your output to yprbr it can do 1920x1200@85hz.

If you WANT you can waste money on a Sunix and get full RGB, but honestly it’s not worth the 5-10x the price depending on stock and they all have some issues where the bottom band of pixels displays on top.

The benfei is also amazing for PS3 XBox360 etc.

It shouldn't break anything, but it might. The lack of an external power source means it's going to try to draw the power it needs to operate from the HDMI port on your PS3. If it says it was designed for that purpose, it should be fine, but it's ebay, so there's no way to know without trying it. I'd feel more comfortable using one that takes external power from a brick or USB port, like this.

It is a different one from the one I used to have... Man, spending money like this sucks, should I buy the same type I used to have again, and see if that's any better?

Those unpowered adapters don't always work correctly. Something like this is what you need. Always look for active adapters.

I achieved a similar set-up using this HDMI to VGA adapter.

I am using xps15 9570 with an adapter with a limit that seems to be 300MHz I could drive 1920x1440i@144hz (299MHz), or 1920x1440p@75hz, or 1920x1080p@96hz. To get interlaced resolutions to work in windows 10 go to Display settings > Advanced Display settings (on bottom) > (select crt monitor) click Display adapter properties for Display# > Under adapter "list All Modes" > select (interlaced) resolution. To get interlaced resolution, use CRU (custom resolution utility) to make, and check "interlaced checkbox" and select Timing CRT standard.

What resolutions are you pushing? And monitor? Did you have any luck with other adapters with more resolution? I have an old pc gpu with vga port i can try to push refresh rate.

Same one we use for all of our projects at work, no issues with them. Should have an analog audio port as well if you want to throw audio on a set of speakers or something like that.

The Q&A section of this adapter says for PS4 you need more power for the cable, so it says to plug in the usb cable that comes with it to a source such as a usb wall charger.
