My VG248QE came with a Dual-link DVI-D cable in the box, so if you have that then you should be good to go. Otherwise, something like this should be what you are looking for. You can also use Displayport cables, like the one found here.

edit: Also, another thing to be aware of is that you will need to tell windows (I'll assume you're on windows) that you want your monitor to display at 144hz (truthfully I don't know if this is a global setting i.e. it will affect your games too, or if it is specific to the windows GUI). Navigate to the screen resolution settings, click on your monitor, go to advanced settings --> Monitor --> Screen refresh rate and choose 144hz.

You need a dual link adapter. Like this one: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?item=N82E16812329326

Notice it says "Active adapter that converts both Single-Mode and Dual Mode (DP++) Displayport output"

You will need a dual link DVI cable to make the adapter work as well. Like this one: https://www.amazon.com/BlueRigger-Digital-Dual-Link-Cable-Black/dp/B009WA4EBU/ref=pd_lpo_vtph_23_tr_t_3?_encoding=UTF8&refRID=S0JADZRX48B3Y2NH5GW6&th=1

All in all, the gist is. You are crippling your cards output by using the wrong cables/adapters.

If your card looks like this one: http://hothardware.com/ContentImages/Article/2471/content/small_nvidia-geforce-gtx-1070-5.JPG

Get a DVI-D Dual link cable for Monitor 1. Then get a DP-> Dual Link DVI-D active adapter for Monitor two with a Dual Link DVI cable to complete the connection.

You can ALSO try using HDMI, but that is a monitor specific mess I don't recommend wasting your time with.

Just bought a second monitor to have a dual monitor setup.

I own an ASUS 770 which has only 1 HDMI port, connected to my main monitor.

On the new BenQ it only has D-Sub and DVI.

My question is about which DVI cable to purchase. I bought this cable with the monitor and hope that it is sufficient, but after reading about dvi-i and dvi-d with both single and dual channel I am a little confused.

Your help is always appreciated :)

TL;DR
A standard DVI cable will get you 1080p. A dual link DVI cable will be good way higher or with two monitors. Something like this.

If it's a new monitor though, it will come with this cable.
