  • Promo code: "NEFPCC57"
  • Sale ends in 17 hours
  • You want bass? These will give it to you.
  • Stock pads however suck. Get yourself the Brainwavz XL pads

These headphones are awesome. They are budget bass cannons that don't completely destroy the mids and treble. Great for all kinds of music, but obviously excel at anything bass focused. Casual gaming rocks your face with how nuts gunfire and explosions can get. Competitive gaming can be done, but isn't recommended due to the high bass. The flat parts on the sides are perfect for mounting a modmic however.

However, they have a few negatives. They are big, have a non removable cable, but worst of all, are the stock pads. They are stiff, shallow, and just not comfortable at all. They aren't glued on however so they are easy to replace. I highly recommend you grab yourself the pleather Brainwavz XL pads to replace them (Or sheepskin if you got the cash to spend. Hybrid and perforated versions available too). They make the Retro's super comfy to wear for hours on end.

>head-pounding bass?

Try Monoprice's Modern Retros and Brainwavz Pads.

Solid choices. That was my first DAC/Amp, and I have two pair of Retros. They're mind blowingly good for the price! If you decide to replace the pads, these are what I used on mine.

As awesome as the HD 58X Jubilee is at $149.99 (-$10 with a referral from a Massdrop member) when it's available, that's not under $75.

You need the other popular insanely-good-for-the-price basstastic option: the Monoprice Modern Retro. With a promo code you can get it for ~$18 or pick up an open box one for $9.99. Get Brainwavz XL pads for $24.50 on Amazon for the PU leather in your choice of colours.

When you have saved a few more dollars, look for a cheap but good USB headphone DAC/amp like the FX Audio DAC-X6 or SMSL M3.

Yeah, I wouldn't recommend using the focuspads.

I would recommend ripping out the plastic ring, and putting them into another pad (without glue). A readily available and reasonably priced pad is the BRAINWAVZ XL. You might need to trim the flap that you insert the plastic ring into so that they don't cover the plastic clips in the ring, but they should work.

The Monoprice Retros are what youre looking for. When you slap on some monster pads you get some endless comfort with great bass. People call these bass cannons but im not sure id go tha far.

Ive had some 12 hour sessions with these and the comfort just never goes away. I did splurge for the sheepskin pads though.
