I have a room that is 12 x 9, plus a small 3 x 3 area in the entrance to the room. I have run the following setup:
In my case I only had to add the power at the start of the entire string of LEDs. There are a number of libraries that you can use for controlling LEDs. I used FastLEDs (I believe that's right, I am not at my desktop machine so I;m not ABSOLUTELY positive.)
I also made a Windows app that is designed for running on multiple monitors. It shows videos (in multiple instances on each monitor) that are changed to the beat of the music and it can also affect the LED lights. Just added my DreamScreen yesterday. I purchased the interface only for $69 and went the DIY route. Purchased my LED Strips from Amazon for $21.
