I started taking Myo-Inositol along with Vitex and NAC (N-Acetyl L-Cysteine) Powder back August last year. Before starting these, I had very painful heavy periods (needed multiple pads for full coverage) that would last from 10-15 days. I mix 1tsp of Inositol and 1/2 tsp of Vitex and NAC in a store bought smoothie like bolthouse farms Green Goodness or Naked juices. For the first few months I did this 2 times a day, then moved onto 1 time a day. My periods are down to 5-7 days, nowhere near has heavy and very little cramps and pain. I has helped me with evening out my moods as well, no more extreme symptoms of PMS.

Hope this helps, the PCOS nutrition website mentioned was also very helpful.

Yellow gatorade with N-Acetyl L-Cysteine. It does taste like ass so you can get capsules, but the yellow gatorade cuts it really well. Don't get me wrong, it can only do so much, but you'll still be very very surprised at how good you feel.

For those asking "how much do I take of each", from the articles:

  • [1] "Both drugs were administered as a single oral dose of 200 mg kg(-1) body weight 1h before alcohol intake". This would be 16g for a 80kg (175 pound) person, which is a massive amount of these things. In the case of the NAC it would be 26 pills from the Amazon link given later here and since they "contain selenium and molybdenum" you probably want to stick with just pure powdered NAC (Selenium can be pro-oxidative and pro-diabetic in large amounts, no idea about molybdenum).

  • [2] Doesn't say outright, just says how much ALCAR was mixed into the liquid food (2mg/ml).

  • [3] Similarly shows 2g/L of NAC added to a 30% alcohol formula. This one is particularly interesting because it shows improvement in various negative markers caused by alcohol even without abstinence from alcohol.

For both 2 and 3, because only the ALCAR or NAC concentration in the liquid is given and not the liquid consumption, I guess we're forced to assume a similar dosage.
Examine.com has articles on both ALCAR and NAC which interested people should read, and if you're putting something into your body you should be interested in reading about it.

Here's Amazon links for n-acetylcysteine and ALCAR powders from Bulk Supplements -- I've used them before and they seem fine and the prices are very good.

The TLDR of this post is:

  • dosages aren't clear from the 2nd and 3rd articles, but the 1st suggests 200mg/kg bodyweight, which is ~16g for a 175 pound person, of each supplement

  • use a pure form of the supplement rather than one mixed with other things -- for example, the selenium in the capsules linked in this thread can cause problems in high dosages

  • these are single studies so neither they nor this post should necessarily function as advice
