I guess you could just put ear buds in and put a manual set over. If the dog's barking was loud enough to trigger the sensor you could set these so you could hear what was going on but not hear the dogs. A hand clap is loud enough to do it.
For my needs hard to justify $35 on these when I can get these for $21. Now if you're wearing them day in day out, or for different tasks where you're not talking to others you may have different needs. I use mine at the range.
