I've been using these to work on cars for a few years so I've followed them with some interest. I believe "the larry" originally referred to this guy. A bit later, cliplight came out with the continuous strip model like this that was a good deal brighter. Now Larry has come out with this new model which matches the cliplight in terms of being a strip and the output. I think it's kindof an arms race, and we're all winning.

They are super cheap and very useful. You could buy a few of them for the money you want to spend.
