Going to echo what besterich27 said. I have a MacBoook Pro, and while I absolutely love it for work, it's not the best choice for gaming.

Second, I will also echo that a laptop is generally a poor choice for gaming due to limitations on upgradability and limitations on heat dissipation and power.

If you really really x5000 want a portable gaming rig, I would suggest building an mATX or ITX rig with a full-sized GPU, with wireless keyboard and mouse. The Corsair Graphite 380T, for example, is just sweet.

I wish I had a need for it. ;-)

Have you considered getting a mobile desktop in a case like the Corsair 380T? The size is roughly 1 square foot and has a nice carrying handle. And then buying a small portable monitor and then a regular one for at home?

Otherwise a laptop would be your best solution.

Probably won't need a Z97 mobo, everything else looks good, your call with the RAM its DDR3 1600 which is solid but if you want to upgrade its up to you. I was thinking about doing an itx build in one of those new Corsair Cases they look really cool. It looks good though, congrats on the upgrading I love when I get the funds to upgrade.

Price varies per color, I've seen them as low retail for 80. It's mini itx but pretty roomie.

Other responses are speaking generally, not looking at the exact specs.

Both of the ones you listed have the Nvidia 960M, which is approximately equivalent (slightly slower memory) to the 750ti desktop card. This is actually pretty decent for Overwatch, and should run the game at medium-high at 60+fps. It should also run more demanding games (e.g. BF1) decently at lower settings.

There are two issues I see, though. First, gaming laptops are bricks, and carrying either of these (but esp. the Lenovo) to class every day will be a pain. Whether you get one of these or a desktop, I'd suggest buying a light Chromebook for class and library time (you can remote in pretty easily). Second, laptops have no real upgrade path and, because of heat and form factor issues, shorter lifespans.

Unfortunately if you're going back and forth to school and playing in both locations, you may be stuck with laptopping. If you're using a car you could do a build based on a mini-ITX case like this (with handle!), but that would require keeping a monitor and accessories in both locations.

Thanks for confirming, I will likely swap cases, really wish I could wait for the Corsair 380T.

Desktop for sure. This might help with portability.
