They are the absolute best, and will make you laugh/smile every damn day. But stubborn as all heck. Mine is 5 years old, and the only thing she'll do on command is sit. That's it. And even then it's 50/50 whether she sits or not. So just be prepared and know that they pretty much do whatever they want. When you discipline them, you have to be overly stern to the point they start pouting. For the most part, they like to chew on furniture, shoes, etc when they're young so you can buy a foul-tasting deterrent to spray on things like baseboards, couches, flip flops, whatever. It doesn't smell bad or ruin the upholstery, but it tastes terrible to dogs. Can't remember what it's called but it's pretty common. I got lucky with mine and she never chewed on anything, but I was prepared after doing my research early on.

Clean their folds every other day at least, if not daily. I use this and it works well. They are a lot of maintenance, but if you stay on top of it, it's manageable. It just becomes a part of the daily routine. Once skin irritations in the folds become problematic, it becomes incredibly difficult to reverse.

Oh, and have I mentioned that they are STUBBORN? Lol, seriously stubborn.

For the most part, you get what you pay for with a bulldog. Over breeding is obviously a big problem, so do your homework with breeders. I traveled 10 hours each way to get mine from a particular breeder, and she has been 100% healthy since day one.

I had the palette-reduction surgery done very early on, so she could breathe easier. I recommend it.

Their farts could strip the chrome off a fender. But you get used to it.

They snore really bad. Still doesn't deter me from sleeping with mine. I find it soothing (most times).

My last piece of advice is to love them fully every single day. Mine has brought so much joy into my life, and I don't want to think about the day where she will no longer be with me. Best of luck and be sure to post pics here when you get him/her so I can say "Such a good boi/pretty lady" out loud and upvote you. :)

I rescued mine in Canada when he was 1.5 years-old. The overall costs of that was $800. Then he got fixed, which was around $600. He was then trained for 8 weeks, and that was about $1000. We feed him Acana 6-Fish, which costs RUFFely (get it?) $80 a month. Treats (Benny Bullys all the way!) are about $30 a month. We also feed him lots of fresh fruits and veggies but that comes out of our own food budget.

We also use MalAcetic wipes for his feet, folds, tail pocket and ears twice a day. Those are about $35 every 2 months.

We have been SOOO grateful that our guy is now 4 and has never had A SINGLE issue yet besides the odd ear infection (knock on wood). No back or hip issues, no insane allergies, no breathing problems, etc. Obviously things spring up here and there like new toys, new collars, ointment for cuts or rashes, etc. But those are all things I imagine a regular dog would cost.

Because we rescued him, we do have a good chunk of money put away for emergency rather than using pet insurance. We also put away a little bit from our pay cheques to top this as well to avoid going through a pet insurance company.

As you can see, not all frenchies are going to cost you 30k. A lot of it is going to depend on a reputable breeder and/or their genetics.

Oh-no, sorry that you are dealing with this! My guy has been in the same boat, scratching so hard his ear would bleed. It ended up being an ear infection. We also started him on
Cytopoint injections every 6 weeks.

These wipes are great, we use them every night, to wash his ears / paws / and coat (https://www.amazon.com/Dechra-100-Count-MalAcetic-Wipes/dp/B00K4X8TBK). To help with food allergies, he eats Earthborn Holistic Venture Rabbit Meal & Pumpkin Limited Ingredient Diet Grain-Free Dry Dog Food.

Don’t fall down the “vetnet” the best place to go for answers is your veterinarian. Also, don’t worry! This is treatable. Hope everything goes OK and keep us posted!
