I bought [this] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07HKBDFQX/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1). Its not a desktop, but it's fairly good computer that I play Arena on all of the time. No problems at all.

The only downside is it's a brick of a computer (weighs 6lbs+, which is a lot for a laptop) and it doesn't have a web cam (which I actually view as a positive). The specs outside of that are the best I could find for the price. 16 GB of RAM, i7 with slightly less than 4 GHz quad core processor and a decent, not high end, graphics card for games.

Ain't pretty, but it meets your specs: link. I just wanted to set a base line.

If you thought more about the Mac route, prices on them are pretty decent right now as it's back to school. The 2018 MBP 13 dropped to $1000 on Amazon which is about as low as it's gone. For new models your best bet, if you're able to prove you're a teacher (edu email, ID, etc) would be from Apple directly or from Best Buy as they have education discounts right now on Macs. You do pay a price premium with a mac but they have fairly decent reliability, excellent displays for photo editing, and a long battery life.

If you could stretch your budget a bit, the Lenovo T480s would be even better. It's incredibly reliable, has great customer support, and it's relatively lightweight with a great battery life (coupon THINKBIG).

If you're fine with refurbished you could also consider older business models such as the Dell M4800. It won't be as lightweight as newer ultrabooks but it does come with a numberpad and it'll have a bit better specs (including a low end dGPU). It'd work a bit better for light gaming - but the integrated graphics on the previously mentioned models could also play the Sims well.
