I suggest that you get her this mini/shelf system from Denon. The Denon D-M39S has everything that you would want and is in your budget.

  • CD player - Now she doesn't have to get rid of or transfer anything.

  • USB input - for table/phone/ipod playback and charge

  • Aux analog inputs - hook up the computer via a 35. to RCA cable

  • Optical input! - hook the TV and anything connected to the TV (DVD, BR player, Roku, ect) up to this guy for better audio.

  • Subwoofer out - Yep you can hook up a powered sub to this guy too. If you want to get a nice 2.1 going just get a little Dayton or ML dynamo and you're in business.

  • FM tuner - Not the most advanced technology but hey it could still come in handy in a pinch.

  • Remote - a must for any HT use.

Separate units are generally preferred if you care about quality. But if it doesn't matter much and you want an all-in-one, Onkyo and Denon have some OK ones:
