I, and some other people here, use Downbeats earplugs. $14. Great protection. And they still let a lot of the sound in and make the show sound great. It's not muffled like a standard solid earplug, it just kind of mutes the roar. Also they are basically invisible, so if you're self conscious about wearing them (you shouldn't be), there's that.

I've had one pair for years and they are still going strong. Very much worth the money. The #1 thing I regret about my showgoing life is not wearing plugs when I was younger. I'm only in my late 20s now and my hearing is pretty bad. Don't go to another show without them.

I'll also recommend the DownBeats plugs.

They're shorter stem than the Etymotic ones, so they're nearly invisible when in your ear. They also come in a cool little metal cylinder you can hang from your keychain or belt loop or whatever.

Your ears will thank you for this. I've tried several options for earplugs at this point, with the notable exception of the custom fitted route (though I will definitely be going that route eventually).

If you buy a $10-$20 dollar pair you may have to do some experimenting, because the way they fit in your ear is very important and varies from product to product. I've tried Dubs (as mentioned by /u/robinhoodexe) and Eytmotics (as mentioned by /u/kbreitli) which are both fine quality-wise, but they didn't fit my ears very well. The best fit for me that I've found so far are Downbeats.

Ive had These for the past 3 years and theyve saved me through The Paradox twice. Technically filtering kind so it just cuts down the DBs without muddying sound too much

I use downbeats. they're pretty good, have a low profile, and come with a little keychain case.

I'd recommend it for kansas. Was in the top row of the grandstands for the fall '13 race and even with the reduced HP those engines are still loud! Bought these and with the case it was super handy to have this past Kansas race.

custom ones will always be best but they can cost hundreds, an affordable alternative would be something like https://www.amazon.com/DownBeats-Long-Stem-Protection-Percussion/dp/B00ODE0IDS

You're doing gods work, people really need to understand that tinnitus can and will happen to you if you go to enough shows without hearing protection, I have definitely developed some, but earplugs have really helped mitigate more damage. Also if people want some extra cheap quality earplugs I recommend these a lot of people prefer them to the etymotic ones. If you lose them its a very cheap reorder too.

This is a real tragedy. But man, dont blame yourself. Carry on. Tell people about hearing loss and countermeasures. There are lot's of celebs with hearing loss problems...

SO don't panic, your life is not ruined. Educate others. Tell them that they should avoid noise exposure or protect their hearing.
For example when you attend loud concerts you should use earplugs with audio filters. And you should consider Frequency reduction values table. I made a research on this theme not so long ago. Here is the table for ~$20-30 earplugs for concerts:

I thought about those but it freaked me out how small those things were. Did you go for the long stem version? Had those in my cart and switched em out at the last second. Either way we're using protection. And in Vegas, its all about protection.

u/bookfancier69 · 2 pointsr/audiophile

I've eyed those ones but I went and can vouch for downbeats.. Amazing value.

Plus if you end up losing them at a music festival, no huge loss.

Try these one man. My entire crew have been using these for a few years now. Not worth messing up your hearing
