Those claim to repel spiders as well but that's a lie. However, they do an excellent job of keeping mice/rats at bay. I just bought one of each and put it in both ends of the garage. I'm sure you can find competing products that have higher ratings on Amazon but after the first one month where this stupid mouse ate through a Tomcat trap (it chewed through the plastic and ate the peanut butter. Avoided the trap mechanism. What a f'ing badass.), I went ultrasonic.
I may just get the six pack now and spread them around the house. For those suggesting cats, mice getting into the smallest of holes (smaller than a cat's paw) and climb railings to get away. This little bastard was on one of my cabinets up on the wall and put 8 feet between him and the cat.
These things are safe for pets and humans. The first one started making tiny buzzing sounds a few months in but I smacked it good and it went quiet again.
Edit2: My positive experience was for rodents (rat/mice). As I've said, these don't do much against spiders. There are spiders right outside my garage, outside the front door with in a 6-10 foot radius of these units. I doubt they'd also do much against roaches or ants. I mean roaches and spiders sense sound vibrations through hairs on their legs. They don't have a proper ear canal and ear drum like rodents do. That's my theory anyway. Go ask /r/science if you really want to know.
