My old dog had very sensitive skin that we chalked up to food allergies forever. Then he had a strange skin thing going on which brought us to the vet. The vet gave him a steroid shot, and that shot made things so much worse. He showed heightened levels of cortisol a month later at a new vet.

Finally, I did learn that wiping my dogs legs/paws/belly off after coming inside or putting a shirt/PJs on him when he went outside helped keep his skin in good condition.
I've been in your shoes. Not knowing what was wrong. Lathering him in coconut oil (which actually seemed to make it worse - I think I did it wrong). I even used my clarisonic on him at one point when I was really desperate. It may not feel like it, but it WILL end. I promise.
