This is what I use and I love it. Converts to HDMI and takes care of the problems with old consoles on non CRT TVs. It's a little pricey at $50, but worth it since you can use it with all old consoles on any TV.

I love mine. As an added bonus, you can get the cable for the N64 that supports s-video and use it with this box for a little more quality, or go all the way with the RGB mod and this box still works in all scenarios.

I picked up a s-video cable and then a video converter from here:

It works well aside from the fact that the picture is slightly off center.

I run my NES through this at the same time as the N64. I just use a audio switcher for that portion.

I recommend an S-video cable:

And a composite to HDMI upscaler:

This option would be a $50 investment. You could get a good CRT TV at Goodwill for less, (Look for Sony Trinitron and bring your N64 to test it.) but if you like your HD TV, this is a really good option. N64 isn't going to look that great on anything but almost anything else looks pixel perfect with the upscaler + S-video setup. (SNES and GameCube look amazing.) If you want to wait it out, this guy is developing a way to make N64 look better through HDMI and he's trying to get it produced.

if you look, the component's first input is usually a double function, and is also able to accept composite video input, but we would need the specific model number to get the instruction manual to figure out if this will work. Lots of newer TVs don't even have composite inputs anymore because they want to force you to upgrade your stuff. I had to buy one of these little fuckers because my mom did not want a new DVD player, but her new TV only had HDMI and component inputs.
