My son is 13 months old and we've been dealing with something similar. Here are some things we do to try and buy us more time in bed in the mornings: First, we see if we can get him to go back to sleep. We turn on the fan in his room (if it's off), turn on the lullaby setting on his Fisher Price Calming Seas Projection Soother, and make sure he has his pacifier and stuffed lamb to cuddle. If he won't go back to sleep, we'll then see if he can play quietly. Turn on the projection lights, throw in another stuffed animal and a crinkly book, and we can usually buy an extra 30-60 minutes.

Assuming you want other solutions I'll offer some:

  1. 5 S's

  2. Play some music

  3. Mobile

  4. Swing

  5. One of these things

My three-year-old started having nightmares two weeks ago, and I haven't gotten more than two hours of sleep at a stretch since (except the night we left him with my parents to celebrate our anniversary, which was awesome).

He won't let my husband comfort him, so it's all me. He goes down at 8:30, I go to bed and fall asleep by 9:30, he wakes up at 11, 1:30, 3, and 4:30. The only way he doesn't wake up all night is if I sleep with him, which either involves sharing his twin bed (cold and uncomfortable for me) or kicking my husband out of our bed , which I finally did last night just so I could get some goddamn sleep. (We all fit in our bed, but my son is a kicker, so if he's sleeping there my husband won't.) Except, I still woke up every 90 minutes to go pee, and my son wouldn't stay on his side of the bed.

We have tried a lot of things to help him sleep better-- nightlights, leaving a lamp on, this music and light thing, "good dreams lotion" (both the good smell and telling him that the lotion will help him have good dreams), a consistent bedtime routine, turning the TV off earlier, laying down together and talking about good things to dream about, but he still wakes up. I think we just need to get through this, but, AAAARRRRGGGHHH! I'm so, so, so tired.

I think Savannah and your son just may be soul mates! This is EXACTLY what Savannah did to us (still does when she gets sick). We tried everything short of knocking her out with a real rock! Lol. I kid.... I kid.

What you're going through is bringing back memories. We tried taking her to a doctor; not cos she was sick mind you, but cos of the screaming at night. What a quack. He says..... "There's nothing wrong. That's what babies do.... They cry."

We'll no shit sherlock... I could have told you that 25 years ago and wouldn't have needed a medical degree to do so. We wanted help getting her to sleep and to stay asleep.

She Wasn't colicky. She wasn't hungry. She hated us. (I still kid!)

I ended up doing a ton of research and posting and subscribing to /r/Parenting. In the end we wound up doing the sleep training method. Also... this really helped a ton

Also.... LAVENDER! Lavender oil... Lavender spray. It's the smell of lavender that calmed Savannah down. You don't have to spray the baby, just a quick spray or 2 on his blanket or pillow at night should do the trick.

Another also.... Sound machine! something like this these helped a lot as well.

Hope this helps. On the bright side... Since these 2 seem to be soul mates and all, we can joke about this 22 years or so from now at their wedding!

Cheers mate

We have [this](http://www.Fisher-Price.com/ Calming Seas Projection Soother https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00NFETDR4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_m.PdzbJW00JBG) and it seems to work well. It has a white noise button, a music button, and a nature sound button. Can be on with lights or no lights and has two volume settings. It plays for quite a while and then fades out. So far my daughter has been in deep enough sleep where she doesn't notice it stopping. But if you're trying to drown out cars I could see why you would need one to always be running.
