Had the same problem, went to amazon and bought this. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07926M1QJ?psc=1&ref=yo_pop_mb_pd_title

Took less than 10 minutes to swap the latches out.

Replace it with these. Get a better tool set though if you don’t have one.

I put metal latches on all joy cons I purchase. Significant improvement and honestly should be the standard. Makes them connect to the console much more securely.

Here you can find it on Amazon if you read the top reviews they will give you hints on how to avoid some of the issues other people had. Essentially don't over tighten screws and be gentle/patient with ribbon cables then you should be okay.

Everyone is giving you snarky remarks but it's actually something you can fix on your own very easily.

Buy this kit from Amazon and watch a tutorial on how to fix it. The only thing I had trouble with is almost stripping a screw but I was being lazy.

Cool, that's good to know. In case anyone is curious this is the first one that shows up on amazon. I might pick it up as it also comes with the necessary screwdrivers and I was thinking of replacing my greys with color cases and needed a screwdriver anyway: https://www.amazon.com/Version-Replacement-Nintendo-Joy-Cons-Screwdrivers/dp/B07926M1QJ/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=joycon+latch&qid=1554739045&s=gateway&sr=8-1

This is because the the piece of plastic in the joycon latch has failed.

When the plastic latch has failed, the joycons will not securely lock-in anymore.

It is designed to fail before perm damage is done to the console, especially when the console falls and lands on the joycon first.

You can buy replacement plastic latches at places like Amazon. Example below:

>https://www.amazon.com/Plastic-Slider-Buckle-Nintendo-Controller/dp/B07BG1C15P/ref=pd_lpo_vtph_147_lp_tr_img_2?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=NNA0SHGCQA5ZGECYEWCE

There's an alternative as well. YOu can buy metal latches that will never fail. However, by doing that if you drop your switch the chance of permanent damage to the rails is higher since the metal latches will not fail as easily.

Not exactly - so, on the inside of the Joycon is a latch that connects to the Switch itself. The latch is plastic, and if you ever accidentally drop the Switch and a Joycon is knocked loose, it will never fit properly again unless that latch inside is replaced. Instead of replacing it with another plastic latch, use this set of metal latches instead.

can buy 3rd party -metal- replacements for that little latch part on ebay/amazon

The plastic locks likely broke or wore down enough to the point where they no longer lock.

There a metal latch kits if youre feeling up to fixing it. Usually doesnt take more than an hour to do both.

I ordered a kit on amazon for around $9.99 US dollar to swap the plastic pieces out for metal ones. My left one gave out last night I was bummed to find out they made them with brittle plastic.

Give me a sec and I'll see if I can find a picture, not at home at the moment

Edit: Here's an amazon link for it

I personally haven't had an issue with the joycons sliding out so far, but the parts came with the kit I bought so I have them for if it ever happens

So I just ordered a joycon latch repair kit (I now have two broken latches, I maybe should just get the lite). Both of my latches are from two different left joycons, what I'm wondering is, are the top and bottom latches made the same? As in could I use the latch meant for the bottom of a joycon as a top latch on the same sided joycon? Also here is a link to the product I bought. If my question is confusing I'll try and go into more detail, any help is appreciated!
