I believe you can even get UV lamps with timers on them, and that they're not even very expensive. I imagine this $30 beauty would do the trick. The three bendy lights can be sure to catch all sides of the plant even though it's a bit big (with the long leaves you described), and sunlight levels are adjustable to avoid too much or too little light intensity.
And the timer means she can set-and-forget it, which sounds especially useful for your friend.
I got this little set up for my dozen rescue phals and it does a good job for what I needed. The room also has a window with white blinds I keep half shut so this grow light isn't the only light.

This little gadget is a good budget buy for monitoring humidity with a Bluetooth free app. You have to be in the same room for the app to sync, but I LOVE that it will show me a graph of what the temp and humidity was either overnight or during the day while I'm at work.

If you take a walk around looking into windows you might see purple glow-grow lights from us plant people. They need some supplemental light here in winter. I keep mine on year round though - they really boost your green guy's lives.
