30L seems excessive. I have the HKPro. It weighs like 6.5oz packed into a small rectangle the thickness of a piece of cardboard. Here it is:

They also make a slightly larger one that maybe (?) suits your needs.

The materials are pretty good. Durable from my experience. I use this for everything and as a daypack when hiking. It's incredibly versitile and has 2 water bottle pockets for $20, which is tough to find.

I don't know about what exactly you're looking for in a pack, but I recently ordered a HikPRO packable backpack off of Amazon, and I love it! I like that it's water resistant (oh god, rainy European winters), lightweight, and roomy.

For me, space is such a precious commodity when backpacking. I like having the option to literally compress my daypack down into nothing when necessary - and this pack weighs 8oz and expands into a 25L pack for only $20!

The only downside is that since it's so lightweight and packable, it doesn't hold shape and doesn't have a lot of "backpack hardware." Personally I don't mind, but I know some people might.

If you're set on the two you have listed, I would go with the flash 18 if you don't care are waterproofing.

I take a 35L backpack then I have a small day pack that I'll use for daily outings to put my camera, water, extra coat, whatever. I always pack so that I can leave my house with everything fitting into the backpack, that way you have another whole bag if you bring stuff back. Usually hostels will have lockers so you'd leave your laptop and clothes behind.

This is the day pack I use. Looks flimsy but I've had it for two years and it's still in perfect condition.

I just returned stateside from a 17 day trip through Thailand with an Osprey Porter 46. I also brought a packable 25L daypack, which I ended up filling with souvenirs.

I overpacked a bit (brought extra jeans and a sweater) but if you are experienced at traveling or will have access to laundry often you could get by with less. Personally I think the 46L was the perfect amount.
