These people are freaking ridiculous and aren't giving you realistic answers.

Finding a place to live, even if it cuts into 50% of your monthly income, is simply living the struggle life. By these responses, most people in here probably have had very little struggle in their lives.

Now if you're going to do this, you have to be empirical in how you spend and leverage your funds. For example, have you assessed how much you pay in mandatory expenses? Are utilities included? Will you be paying for internet? How much is your cellphone bill? Do you drive, and if so, how much is your car insurance? How much do you spend on food during the day/week/month? All of these have to be taken into consideration.

After allocating all of your extraneous monthly expenses, add that to the total cost of rent and subtract that number from your gross income. (gross income) - (rent + expenses) That's how much money you'll have as discretionary income.

When doing this, the goal is to reduce your expenses down to as little as possible, while finding ways to increase your income as much as possible. You'll come to realize that little things you take for granted, like spending $7 a day here and there on food, can add up significantly. For example, $7 a day for 30 days is $210. Do you really need that giant juice for $5 when you can drink water out of your brita filter for a fraction of the cost? Want flavored water? There's many cheap flavor-drop options that can be stretched for a very long time. Do you have to eat out all the time when you can prepare your own food and have it dispersed out for days? Here's a video that shows how to do just that. Also, invest in a vacuum sealer! A slightly high one time expense but will dramatically increase the flavor and shelf-life of your food. Do you take public transportation a lot? Use a bicycle instead! I've saved thousands in public transportation costs over the course of years by just doing this. Plus it's hella fun. And in NYC, particularly between brooklyn and manhattan, it's faster than any other mode of transportation when comparing to car, train, or bus.

As you many intuitively know, the goal is upward mobility. And I know you'll do whatever it takes to win and succeed! You'll do well my friend!

I did it in a food saver, but on the show they also used a gallon ziplock bag. If you wanted to go that route you can get most of the air out by submersing the weed filled bag in a pot/bowl/sink of water up to the "zipper" part of the bag and it would act as sort of a vacuum seal.

If you can afford a vacuum sealer it's worth it, if not I'm sure the bag would work since the quart/freezer storage bags are pretty thick. I wouldn't try it with a sandwich bag though, I think it'd be too thin.

Edit:. I have a vacuum sealer similar to this one, it's not super expensive and it gets the job done 😊
