I throw that all, a piece of old t-shirt, and a can of my favorite chain lube (I use Motul Factory Line wax) in my tank bag for longer trips. I can do my whole chain in 5 minutes for the clean and application, it takes a few minutes longer to adjust tension if needed. You shouldn't need to adjust your chain more often than every thousand miles or more once your brand-new chain gets done with it's initial stretching.

Edit edit: CanyonChasers has a great video on how to clean a chain properly, if you want a link to YouTube I'll get you that. Spray the rear sprocket area when cleaning the chain, gets the sprocket clean and reduces overspray on your rear tire.
