Seems like a better deal than $850.00 for replacement parts.
I really doubt the story of this shop. Corrupted HDD are rare, especially if it work and the motherboard got fried and suddenly it gets corrupted.
I wouldn't be surprised if your power supply is broken. That is more likely that a fried motherboard and much cheaper to exchange.
A new power supply would cost you $50 to $150.00.
There are just too many computer shops that take advantage of the lack of knowledge of their customer.
