Apple always does this shit. With the mac pro, on the top model you get 16GB ram by default, at 4x4GB. To upgrade to 32GB at 4x8GB, they want another £320! If you want 64GB at 416GB, they want an extra £960!! It's fucking insane, and they main reason I've refused to buy their computers for years. Resorted to hackintosh instead.

You can buy a full set of 4
16GB for £260 here.

Bear in mind that £960 doesn't cover the full cost of the ram because the baseline price of the machine is also assuming some ram cost on top that is not specified. You're probably already paying a few hundred pounds so that ram probably costs £1200 all in all, which is enough to buy you a state of the art gaming PC, with 64GB, an i7, and top graphics card.

Fuck apple. I love their operating system, I really do but I will never buy anything directly off them because they just make things too expensive to justify.

If you want the fastest SDD that has 1TB, you could look at the Samsung 960 PRO Series

And if you want the fastest ram, you could try looking at the Kingston HyperX FURY

Per the hardware specs, it should be 2133 MHz DDR4. Just make sure you're getting DIMMs and not the shorter SO-DIMMs. Whether it's ECC memory or not I can't say. I'm leaning towards no so you'd be looking at a kit like this:

Kingston Technology HyperX FURY Black 64 GB Kit 2133 MHz CL14 DIMM DDR4 Internal Memory (HX421C14FBK4/64) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01D8U29QQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_ue8MxbXZRR710

Maybe confirm with QNAP what the exact RAM specs are? The hardware specs on the website are not specific beyond the clock speed.

EDIT: This is the RAM listed in the accessories for the 1282 (non-TB model) - http://shop.qnap.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=35_377&product_id=189

Doesn't look like anything special, you're far better off buying that Kingston kit than spending 800-900 USD getting it from QNAP.

EDIT 2: Scroll down to x82/x82T (https://www.qnap.com/i/useng/support/con_show.php?op=showone&cid=9#5_9), and just above step 5 it says 'Note: The maximum supported memory is 32GB combined.' I now wonder if there is a real software limitation implemented. Best to get in touch with QNAP.
