You could always do your knees and back a favor and just stick a mat in front of it. :)

Other than that, you've already linked to what my first suggestion was going to be. That's a really nice base made out of thick angle iron.

A local machine shop could make that in whatever dimensions you needed without too much trouble. You'd just need to provide the casters and a diagram/photo/schematic to work off of.

And as far as attaching it, I'd seriously go with bolting it on. I know some are designed to have the saw sit in the recessed part, with gravity alone holding it in, but I wouldn't trust it like that, personally.

No worries! If it helps, I have these ones in my home gym and they work great: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00TEBYHM8/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

You can however get even thicker ones such as 2" or even 3". Good luck!

I recommend something thicker and heavier than the baby mat.

A floor mat in VR serves two distinct purposes. One as a guide for your feet to help let you know when you are stepping near your boundaries and the other, just as important, to provide padding when kneeling down and generally for standing and moving around for long periods of time without necessarily having to wear comfortable athletic shoes.

You mat ought to be of course smaller than your actual play area so you sense when you are stepping near the limits of your boundaries before you slam your controller into a wall or a monitor. If the mat fills your entire open floor space then you lose that benefit as by the time you reach the edge it's too late.

I suggest 1" thick MMA floor tiles as they are intended for a lot of comfort and physical activity like gymnastics and martial arts and won't slide around. If a mat material is thin enough that it could be rolled or folded up I don't think it would provide a great deal of comfort and support.

Also Vive-n-Chill is awesome too.
