So, I used to have a car just like this. I'd buy that car again as a spare if I could, cause I loved that hot mess.
Get a spare car key and put it on a lanyard around your neck (amazon sells bulk lanyards for cheap). Leave the car on with the keys in and then lock the door with your lanyard key.
I first tried this system without a lanyard and once accidentally locked both keys in the car while it was running. I was able to get in before the gas ran out- thank the holy spaghetti monster that there was a gas station across the way.

Since that said car, I always keep a jumper with me and it has bailed me out at the most random unexpected times.
