This is all going to come down to personal preference. The Wii U has a huge gamepad that your daughter will probably not be able to handle properly, and it doesn't have a camera.

I know you're anti-Microsoft, I'm just the opposite, but I decided to branch out and bought a Ps3, which I loved, and plan to get a PS4. I am not sure what your story is, but it just became evident to me that being a fanboy was causing me to miss out.

I would recommend the Xbox 360. You can pick one up super cheap, make sure you get the Kinect. When my son was your daughter's age, his favorite game was Once Upon a Monster. Some other good kids games on the 360 are listed below that on the Amazon link, I haven't tried the other sesame street game, but the Rush game is really cool. Another cool Kinect game the kids loved was Kinect Disneyland Adventure which lets you virtually walk around Disney World and interact with characters. In addition, Kinectimals allows your kid to play with and care for a virtual animal, it's really cute. The only thing close to that I've found on PS3 is Eyepets, but it's just not as kid friendly, in my opinion.

Don't get me wrong, I like the Wii U, and they're about to come out with a new console so the price will probably drop. It has a lot of games geared toward kids, but it neglects the under-6 crowd, in my opinion. One cool thing about it, though, is that your kid can play on the gamepad itself without the TV, which I've found to be pretty convenient when I get tired of kid games and want to pop a big boy game into the Xbone.

Edit: I'd recommend watching that first video on the Once Upon a Monster page. I know a lot of times they advertise stuff that doesn't come to fruition, but the way they show it is exactly how it works, and it's a blast even for me to play, we break it out when the younger cousins are around.

I'm still a kid at heart!

My favorite gaming memory is from a couple years ago in high school. I was part of a whole group of friends that included guys and girls and while the guys loved video games, us girls weren't particularly skilled at playing. A few times when I wasn't around the guys had made the other girls play Dead Space. They pretty much crashed and burned as expected. Then one night I was the only girl who hadn't played it before so they decided it was my turn to try. I bumbled around for a good 10-15 minutes but refused to give up. Eventually I got the hang of it and ended up playing for a good 2.5-3 hours straight while everyone watched. The guys were impressed at how good I was and weren't allowed to make fun of my video game skills (or lack of) anymore.

These days I'm more a fan of games like these two from my wishlist ;)
