Ask me this 2 months ago and I would say, "No, have a good big breakfast." However, for about the past few months, I have been making shakes for breakfast and couldn't be happier. Before, I was pretty much Mr. Subway or Starbucks breakfast sandwiches everyday. I was spending ~ $50 a week just in breakfast food. Absurd.

I don't think powder alone will get you very far. I know I would be hungry again in an hour.

So, in about 5 minutes, I mix the following in a blender:

  • 1 cup blueberries
  • 1 cup crushed ice
  • 1 cup water (or so)
  • 3/4 cup organic flax/pumpkin or Ancient Grain/almonds cereal. This stuff is so good.
  • small handful of walnuts crushed by hand.

  • 2 scoops whey/casein blend protein

The above starts my morning off right and keeps me mostly satiated until lunch approaches. That says a lot for a 215lb guy. If I know I am going to be working extra hard/long/or going snowboarding or something, I toss in another 1/4-1/2 cup of regular old oats to get the carb content up.

My Dad (a long time fan of the breakfast shake) told me the other day he has been using a cup of spinach in his shakes, and says it adds little to zero flavor. I may give this a whirl for an even greater anti-oxidant boost.

Oh, I also add in my daily creatine and beta-alanine as well.

Precision Nutrition has some fantastic shake recipes, many which could be well suited to breakfast time and with some tweaking, to whatever nutritional/caloric goals you may have. Check them out.

It must be noted that I would much prefer to sit down and have a nice big breakfast, but this works given that I am a sleepyhead. I do love some breakfast, a handful of eggs, a few sweet potato pancakes and some nice patty sausage.....damnit, now I am hungry.

Frosted Flakes is horrible for you... seriously if you care 1% about your health try something different. Like this stuff, srsly chop up a banana and throw it in this and it's the ambrosia of The Ents http://www.amazon.com/Natures-Path-Organic-Ancient-Almonds/dp/B004885T38
