It sounds like you've realized that your body WANTS to eat because it feels like shit, but eating won't actually help. That's the first mental hurdle. Now you've just got to switch out your go-to foods for healthier versions so that when you do give into the binge (because that happens) it won't be so bad. I lost 35 pounds by just filling up on protein and vegetables FIRST.

I have a small history with eating disorders, mainly in the fact that if I count calories, things get out of control. So I don't count anything. I also don't let myself get too hungry - I'll eat 4-5 big snacks throughout the day, no real 'sit down' meals.

I also make sure I'm drinking enough water - I bought a few of these Contigo water bottles in the 32oz size, and I try to make sure I drink one bottle each day minimum.

I love to cook, but if I cook, I can't do anything else that day, so I eat a lot of packaged food and snacks, or fresh things that just need to be washed. I also eat things with a lot of flavor and spice -- bland food makes me mentally feel like I didn't eat anything, or that I'm depriving myself.

For protein I eat a lot of EPIC meat bars and canned tuna. Instead of eggs (because shells and sinks are unnecessary steps), I make a mountain of egg whites from the carton with sharp cheddar sprinkled/melted in, then LOTS of hot sauce. Sliced deli meats are great things to have on hand -- my deli has Lebanon bologna and lemon-pepper turkey, so I get those instead of the plain stuff.

For veggies, my favorite low-effort thing is IKEA veggie meatballs. But if you don't live near an IKEA, there might be another veggie meatball option at your store. I used to hate salads, then realized I just hated iceberg and romaine lettuce. So now I eat spinach salads (with carrots and olives and roasted red peppers from the jar and sometimes cucumbers). I don't use salad dressing -- just olive oil, balsamic vinegar, and garlic salt. I'll eat green bell peppers raw, like an apple. I eat a lot of apples, too. Honeycrisp are the best.

For good carbs/starches I make beans. Just dump 'em in a bowl in the microwave. Black beans with salsa is probably the healthiest option, but I also liked mixing Great Northern beans with canned sweet peas. Any bean with butter and some kind of hot sauce or salsa is gonna taste ok and be kind of healthy. (Not refried beans, though. Save that for a treat and/or really bad day. Load it up with cheese and salsa.)

To replace chips for salt cravings, I get these salt-and-vinegar almonds. They have lactose, for whatever reason, but other than a bit of bloating the first time I had them, they haven't really bothered my lactose intolerance. And they will low-key tear up your tongue in the BEST way (if you're into that).

I don't really have a sweet tooth, but the KIND bars come in all sorts of flavors and make great snacks. For a cold treat I get the Smooze fruit ices -- they've only got 10 grams of sugar.

I also really like the Thai Kitchen Instant Noodles. They're small servings, so sometimes I'd make two for a meal. Read the packages carefully if you have allergies, though --- the Lemongrass one has shellfish byproducts, which was a very scary and upsetting surprise for me.

Another important thing is just not to have the 'bad foods' (you know the ones) in the house. My dad left a bag of regular cheddar Goldfish here yesterday, and I ate the entire damn thing, despite my gluten and lactose intolerances. So I've been miserable all night. But today I will drink my water and eat my eggs and get back on track.

  2. I collect Magic Cards. Specifically I'm trying to get one of each every card that Rebecca Guay did the art for! My favorite card of all time (for the art not necessarily the actual card0 is Thornwind Faeries My mom has them tattooed on her shoulder and eventually I'm going to work them into a tattoo too!

  3. I love them all right now I have more Cremes than anything else, just because I'm getting started. I'm not fond of pink.

  4. I've been staring down a glass nail file for ages they don't have any in my local stores. I also need some sort of cuticle cream or oil...

  5. I crochet, play geeky table top role playing games, and read... I'm not sure how I have time for it all. More yarn is always welcome. More paint or the nifty grass stuff like this or new interesting minis would be cool... for reading, I use my kindle most often I read Fantasy mostly (good god I'm a huge fucking nerd). I haven't read the Wheel Of Time series yet which is apparently blasphemous.

  6. Unfortunately there aren't many snacky type foods I can have due to a very restrictive diet. Best bet are savory almonds like these Basically I can't have any sugar or grains... So snack food is pretty hard to deal with. unless you have a cheese shop nearby that sells hard cheeses... OMG I miss the cheese shop so bad and they have glorious amazing parmesans and aged goudas and omnomnom.

  7. I have 4 cats, 2 dogs, and a husband. The husband will eat any treats that you put in the box that I can't have.

  8. Probably a glass file. I've been looking for one locally forever, I don't want to spend shipping on one... Or some fancy Emerald and Ash cuticle oils.

  9. A hand written note. Just a little hi or an explanation of why things were picked or something.

  10. I am allergic to pineapple. I love the color green. I tend to gravitate towards citrusy scents.

Hi dude(tte)s, YankeeQuebec here. Welcome to my unofficial lesson on how to engrave your own AR-15 lower receiver. This is not meant to be a comprehensive class, but as a synopsis on just how easy it can be. This is also in hopes that many of you will get some CAD/CAM software, and create the next wave of firearms designs, in hopes of keeping record sales of firearms going higher and higher each year.

Head to your local beer store, and search for beer made in California. Lagunitas, Sierra Nevada, Stone, are only some of the offerings, but any beer made with exported Californian water is even sweeter.

I do eat pork rinds a lot actually, they are great because they are low in calories. My other goto snack are almonds, high in fat. Also high in calories so make sure to weigh them out. I eat 2oz of almonds every day, as part of my lunch.

My favorite are blue diamond habanero bbq(not spicy despite the name), dont buy them online though..check your local store first. They are about half the price at my grocery store compared to online.

Another thing I will use as a snack are Quest Protein Bars or Costcos protein bars The costco ones are a lot cheaper but less choices. Both are keto friendly with ~5g net carbs per bar. Eating one of these with a nice big glass of water will usually keep me full for a bit.

Other than that cheeses and meats are good snacks if you like that kind of stuff.

Getting started can be hard but after a couple months everything becomes second nature. My first month was a bit rocky but I just kept reading up on /r/keto and got an idea of things to try out. Good luck!

u/benjinito · 2 pointsr/VietNam

Obviously it depends on how much you want to spend/what she likes. Just to give you some ideas, my relatives in Vietnam love:

  • American snacks: [these] (https://www.amazon.com/Almond-Roca-ROC5240-42oz-Canister/dp/B0001AO8DY) for example. Don't go for the super popular ones (Oreos, Pringles, etc.), as they have those in Vietnam as well.
  • For girls, drugstore make up like Cover Girl, Maybelline. Viets are more familiar with those brands than the more expensive stuff at Sephora. Safest bet is to go with mascara, maybe an eyeshadow palette/blush.
  • Kinda weird but every single girl I know in Vietnam loves Victoria's Secret. Obviously this depends on what your relationship is. This is more of a FYI fun fact than an actual recommendation.
  • Even weirder - zip lock bags, Saran wrap, storage items for the kitchen.
  • If you know that she has an iPhone, actual Apple licensed products (portable chargers, phone cases, etc) are very sought after since the market there is littered with knock off Chinese stuff.
  • Multivitamins
  • If she has a dog, pet products like [these] (http://www.pedigree.com/really-good-food/dentastix-treats-small-medium.aspx)
u/thedollsquad · 1 pointr/Vitamix

That was really helpful—thanks for typing it all out! I buy my almonds online in bulk but I only go through one cup of almonds every 2 days, here's the kind I use. I use so little I don't mind the expense too much. Feeding a little one this way could get super expensive though! If it makes you feel any better, you also get the lovely byproduct of almond meal, which you can use in all sorts of recipes. The recipe I linked to produces a least a cup of meal, probably more. Not to mention, the taste from homemade milk is much better than the store bought stuff :)

u/karlgnarx · 4 pointsr/Fitness

Ask me this 2 months ago and I would say, "No, have a good big breakfast." However, for about the past few months, I have been making shakes for breakfast and couldn't be happier. Before, I was pretty much Mr. Subway or Starbucks breakfast sandwiches everyday. I was spending ~ $50 a week just in breakfast food. Absurd.

I don't think powder alone will get you very far. I know I would be hungry again in an hour.

So, in about 5 minutes, I mix the following in a blender:

  • 1 cup blueberries
  • 1 cup crushed ice
  • 1 cup water (or so)
  • 3/4 cup organic flax/pumpkin or Ancient Grain/almonds cereal. This stuff is so good.
  • small handful of walnuts crushed by hand.

  • 2 scoops whey/casein blend protein

The above starts my morning off right and keeps me mostly satiated until lunch approaches. That says a lot for a 215lb guy. If I know I am going to be working extra hard/long/or going snowboarding or something, I toss in another 1/4-1/2 cup of regular old oats to get the carb content up.

My Dad (a long time fan of the breakfast shake) told me the other day he has been using a cup of spinach in his shakes, and says it adds little to zero flavor. I may give this a whirl for an even greater anti-oxidant boost.

Oh, I also add in my daily creatine and beta-alanine as well.

Precision Nutrition has some fantastic shake recipes, many which could be well suited to breakfast time and with some tweaking, to whatever nutritional/caloric goals you may have. Check them out.

It must be noted that I would much prefer to sit down and have a nice big breakfast, but this works given that I am a sleepyhead. I do love some breakfast, a handful of eggs, a few sweet potato pancakes and some nice patty sausage.....damnit, now I am hungry.
u/existie · 1 pointr/keto

There's something that I feel I should share with you, but you need to understand that you cannot eat the whole jar. You have to savor it. Lots of savoring, since it's pretty calorie dense, but it's my single favorite thing in this keto world. I like to nom it while I watch Dr. Who and drink Fresca...

I give you... chocolate almond butter.

I take about one serving size and put it a glass salsa/sauce cup, kinda like this. Don't try to put it in a real cup or in a bowl, it'll look pitiful. Anyway, once you have it in this little bitty sauce cup, eat it with your spoon... very slowly. I like to have it to absentmindedly 'munch' on because I can dip the very tip of the spoon in it and eat it. It's really strongly flavored so you don't need much at all.

It gives the same kind of experience as eating popcorn or ice cream in that it gives you something tasty and something to do with your hands absentmindedly while you focus on other things... but because it's so strongly flavored you can consume less of it and get the same enjoyment.

Most of my carb allowance is spent on almonds, either in this form or in this form.

u/mescad · 3 pointsr/keto

Thanks!

To be honest the pie part was an afterthought for me. I'm realizing now, having not yet eaten it, that I forgot to add the artificial sweetener that I was intending to add. I'm way out of the habit of eating any dessert at all, so if it's terrible, I'll just do without.

I looked at several keto pumpkin pie recipes, but none of them were low enough carb for my taste. The crust is a big showstopper (mine has no crust). The one thing I really wish I could had found were the Blue Diamond Pumpkin Spice Almonds that I learned about searching /r/keto for pumpkin pie. If they are coming back this year, they haven't appeared anywhere locally yet.

The green bean casserole was delicious, and I say that as someone who would often name it as his favorite Thanksgiving dish. The standard recipe in my family doesn't contain cheese, so I was curious how that would go. We both agreed that it's a nice spin on an old classic, and would make it again even if I wasn't eating keto. Also, just a note, but I like the texture of "fresh cut" green beans over "french cut" green beans, so that's the only reason I used those.

I have never liked the onions on top, so I didn't mind leaving them out. My wife added hers on the plate. If I wanted them, I'd probably just add them sparingly and count the carbs, as /u/senseandsarcasm suggests.

u/blackartsofwaiting · 4 pointsr/keto

Same happened to me, and then I figured I can snack on things like cheese! It's delicious! I just don't keep sweet things that could throw me out of keto around, and when I'm out with friends getting snacks, I pick up some cheese or jerky!

If you're really looking for something sweet, these are absolutely incredible. (just try your best not to eat all of them)

u/[deleted] · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Adults are just outdated children.

Honestly, these almonds would make me the happiest. I'm always on a diet, and I rarely if ever eat treats like chocolate or flour-based stuff. Most of what I've been posting about sugar and candy and gelato has been just a dream -- it's easier to eat healthy in real life and stay thin if I can get out how much I want them somewhere.

u/one_dimensional · 3 pointsr/vegetarianketo

I don't know how popular the flavor 'salt and vinegar' is around here, but I'm wild about it, and have been in love with these Blue Diamond 'Bold' flavors.

Sooo satisfying and tasty!!

u/Mister_Cupcake · 2 pointsr/EatCheapAndHealthy

As /u/slater125 pointed out, you're best off buying the almonds in bulk. I can get bulk organic almonds for like $6/lb at my local grocery store. And here is a 4lb bag of almonds for $18 on amazon. Though those are dry roasted, not raw.

Why raw? And do you know that 99% of "raw" almonds are actually still pasteurized - usually by a steam method? You can get around it a couple of ways, they mention them in the article. Luckily in my town, I can find truly raw Spanish and Italian almonds. And you can taste the difference, they have a very bitter taste, it kind of makes my tongue feel numb. If you've ever had raw apricots, it's a similar bitterness, just not as strong. Raw apricots might be a good alternative. You're supposed to eat like 7 of them a day or something and if you do, they have an anti-cancer property. But personally I can't stand the way they taste.

u/Arkay_preserve_us · 2 pointsr/xxketo

These help! For some reason the 100 cal packs are $40 on Amazon, but if you figure how many nuts you get in 17.5g it's about 5 carbs. Not a bad amount, and you can avoid the potential disasters that sugar alcohols may cause! These are great too. Some other good travel options are Bone Broth Packets, green olive snack packs, and meat sticks! Of course quest bars are always easy to find! But they're $6 at the airport. I also carry some nuun tablets with me because I'm always stressed and not drinking enough when traveling! But have fun! You got this in the bag!

u/juggernutz07 · 1 pointr/keto

Blue Diamond Habenero BBQ almonds. Oh...oh god. They're the best substitute BBQ chips I've found, PERIOD. A whole can is 12 carbs total, so you can eat a handful or two and be totally fine!!

Blue Diamond Almonds Jalapeno Smokehouse are my favorite snack. You get the crunch, the flavor, and just enough heat. I'm also fond of the regular smoked ones as well.

My goal for myself is to lose the weight I gained when I was pregnant. I gained about 55lbs (yikes!) and was sort of overweight to begin with so things got a bit out of hand. I have lost a lot already since my daughter was born 3 months ago, I have only 17lbs left to go to get to my pre-preg weight. :) How about a healthy snack to help me continue with my weight loss? Cool contest! My number is... 7.

This was mentioned in another keto post: Cocoa Almonds. Awesome

My local market carries Atkins Advantage Bars link to some examples. They come in many flavors. They're a bit pricey, but I have a sweet tooth so I indulge myself sometimes.

I would like to chime in that the Emerald Dark Chocolate almonds are also GREAT and only have 1g sugar instead of 4g sugar in Blue Diamond's.

Emerald's do cost about 2x's as much as these ($.50/oz instead of $.25/oz). Amazon Emerald Dark Chocolate Roasted Almonds

Store almond milk is often a lot of just fillers.
you use more almonds in home milk per cup, so I can see why it might seem that way. It also depends on if you are buy organic almonds and if you are buying them in bulk.
The price of [these](Kirkland Signature Supreme Whole Almonds, 3 Pound https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0046GZM8O/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_dejNzbKDPPSRX) from amazon would come to around $1.63 per 4 cups almond milk, so cheaper than store almond milk, with more nutritional bang for your buck.
Honestly, I don't know how much cows milk is though... It has been a really long time since I have bought it and i know they subsidize it, so I am not surprised if you get double that for the same price.

u/OrangeJuliusPage · 3 pointsr/fatpeoplestories

Gonna throw in a plug for almonds here. Particularly the Emerald Cocoa Roast variety. Filling, tasty, few net carbs, and a super food.

Also, try the Greek people method for broccoli and cauliflower. Extra virgin olive oil, squeeze of lemon juice, and a pinch of salt. For me, I also add some cinnamon, cumin, and Mrs. Dash, for the thermogenic boost.

u/notthecoyote · 1 pointr/keto

Careful when you're eating that flavor, they have a few more carbs per serving. For chocolate almonds I like these, they're pretty tasty!

u/P10_WRC · 1 pointr/keto

I eat these and they fucking rock, plus they are a good source of fat

This is probably going to be the closest - can't find the leather ones on Amazon unfortunately.

peanut butter crackers

(going to suggest that you might want to send Gareth a bag to hold all this? Janine has one already. Unless you meant like cooked food.. in which case, it needs to be available on amazon)

awesome! check out /r/paleo and /r/keto for some advice about how to keep yourself full between meals and how to replace snacks with healthier ones. for instance, i'm a chocolate FIEND but i've found that cocoa covered almonds like these are a healthy alternative.

your diet will have more of an impact with your waistline than exercising. i use exercise to keep myself motivated to diet. i think to myself, why the hell would i want to waste all that time i just spent working out with by eating that candy bar? then i grab an apple.
