Yeah you can literally do that by putting a lid over it. This: https://www.amazon.co.uk/KitchenCraft-Vintage-Style-Glass-Butter-Dish-x/dp/B00VLZTG1C is more than acceptable. Even when the surface is quite oxidised it really doesn't affect flavour significantly, and you can just cut the top off if you care.
