I saw your reply below that said you're more concerned about bass than anything else... so, with that in mind:

Setup One - $1050

Amplifier: Onkyo 8140 - $210

Speakers: Klipsch RP-150M - $300

Subwoofer: Rythmik L12 - $540

So, $1050 for a setup that will get loud... very loud (Klipsch efficiency), and hit low EDM frequencies (sometimes as low as 25 hertz).

Setup Two - $610... AKA Fuck-The-Subwoofer System

Amplifier: Onkyo 8140 - $210

Speakers: BIC America RTR EV15 - $400

u/JohnBooty's review of the above speakers! Read it!

u/DeepPast can also give a glowing review.

Technically, it might not extend quite as low as the first system, but if will still hit hard, I would estimate, down to low 30 Hertz. But, unlike the top system where you have only a single 12" subwoofer, you will have not one, but two 15" woofers pulling bass duty for you. The bass and SPL levels here will still be rearranging your organs if you want them to. I think this would still satisfy your needs, and give you lots of money for beer or whatever.

Start with a nicer 2.1 system and build on later.

The Klipsch RP-150m are MUCH better quality:

Save $100 with this larger sub:

Denon 5.2 receiver:

Total $830

If you're willing to buy used speakers, you can get a much better deal. Don't buy a used receiver though.

R14-M's are just ok....there are WAY better deals to be had. I also love Klipsch but for 600$ I would go with

https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00RXHEIHE/ref=dp_olp_all_mbc?ie=UTF8&condition=all

Used like new from OneCall (very reputable) and this receiver...

http://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/denavrx1300w/denon-avr-x1300w-7.2-ch-x-80-watts-networking-a/v-receiver/1.html

This is a much better setup for basically the same price. There are countless options for great sub 300-350 speakers. I would absolutely go with this Denon though. Its one of the best bang for the buck deals out there right now.

All the suggestions made are good. I'm just giving you another perspective. Try and get a good sub. Two of the cheapest but legit subs out there are Hsu VTF1-Mk3 ($425) and svs PB-1000($419).

Get Denon X1400 for sure. That leaves you with $275 give or take.

Pick up Klipsch RP-150M for $286 from amazon.

This won't leave you any budget for a center speaker but you can get one down the road. However this setup will be far superior than anything with a Bic or Dayton sub and you will be off to a solid start for you hometheater.

If going Klipsch, I recommend the better Reference Premiere line if you can.

The previous models are on sale:

Speakers will sound different but better is sort of subjective. I've heard the R-15Ms and they're not that great. They embody a lot of the things that give Klipsch the reputation that they have such as harsh highs, muddy bass and lacking midrange. The RP-150M is the evolution of their former Reference II line and likely the speaker you want to start with if you go with Klipsch but they're a bit pricey.

I do like that the name of the other company is devil but I've never heard of them before.

I have the bigger brothers the CMT-340SE and yep, they aren't lookers. I was typing a non-shitpost though so here:

Who knows what she thinks looks nice. show her the Klipsch RP-150M, HTD Level 3, Airmotiv B1, Polk S20, Kef Q300, and Q Acoustics 3020. She'll probably like one of them. Or maybe she'd prefer the look of tower speakers. A pair of Polk S55 towers are $200 each used straight from Amazon.

Hello! I'm looking to pick up an entry level receiver and either floorstanding or bookshelf speakers + stands. I'm hoping to spend $500 total or less, but could go up to $700 total for a significant improvement.

I'm not very knowledgeable about the space, so currently eyeing a few of the basic Klipsch bookshelf speakers since I know they're decent and look nice. I'm even considering springing for these piano black ones since they look great and could be somewhat of an accent piece. I know that's trading form for what could be used to purchase better function, but I admit I do care a lot about the look of the speakers. Those piano black ones would leave almost no budget left for a decent receiver, stands (considering these), wires, etc. though.

I'll be using the system with my TV at about 6 feet away from the couch and should have about 6-10" of room behind the speakers. Not ideal unfortunately, but my apartment space is limited. Would a front ported speaker like this one help at all? From what I've read, it seems the bass would still be a problem.

I'll mostly be using it for gaming, movies, and music, but no genres in particular. I plan on connecting my ps4 and TV via the optical digital out port to minimize any potential input lag from running HDMI through the receiver while gaming.

I currently have a shitty system that is not salvageable, so will be starting fresh and plan to buy new. I'm living in NYC, though I'm guessing online will be cheaper in my case. Open to any and all recommendations or advice! Thank you!

Looking at getting an amp, and found that the APPJ mini2013 6J1+6P1 will go on sale on Massdrop soon. I'm looking at pairing it with a pair of Klipsch RP-150M, will this be sufficient? Any recommendations in the $100-$200 range are welcome as well.

u/elitepilot09 · 1 pointr/hometheater

I didn't know about that power rating, thanks for informing me - and no, dont worry, no offense taken!

I will look into the R-26F system - but here's a question: If I purchase the R-26Fs, am I able to use these front-ported speakers to be at the back-rear: RP-150M. And these for the side surrounds?

u/nicerakc · 1 pointr/hometheater

I would look at a pair of Klipsch bookshelf speakers. Pair that with a decent receiver and you'll reach pretty loud levels in that room. If you want to spend a little more, add a subwoofer too.

u/nlnl · 1 pointr/Zeos

Yes, this setup is for desktop and to be used nearfield. Considering I already have an Micca OriGen, would the OriGain AD250 be suitable to run along side the headphone amp? The OriGain seems to have a line out as well. I know it will take 2 USB ports and I'm fine with that.

Also, I'm having a hard time deciding between the Aperion Intimus 5B's and the Klipsch RP150M's. My budget is $350, and at that threshold I am already waiting for the RP150M's to drop down in price. Which of these two would be best for nearfield listening with wedges? Would the Micca OriGain AD250 be suitable to power my choices? Also, am I overlooking a pair of speakers? Ideally, I want something that has a respectable bass profile, doesn't sound flat and muddy, and is within my budget.

Thank you /u/ZeosPantera

I actually just did what you suggested and picked up a pair of Klipsch bookshelf speakers instead from best buy. Im going to be getting a sub next and then two standing speakers later that are better quality. Thanks for the suggestions and links
