Most of the really interesting ciders are of the more orchard-based heritage style, which tend towards drier and not flavored (as they use heirloom and cider apples, instead of dessert apples + fruit/hops/spice/etc), so I wouldn't recommend that quite yet based on what you said he typically drinks.


Over time people usually work their way from the sweet readily available commercial flavored ciders, to mid sweetness local craft modern often flavored varieties ciders, to the mostly drier heritage orchard-based ciders. The later and some of the middle ones are usually sold in larger single bottles instead of a multipack.
