Hi, I’m no expert but I’m almost three weeks in with my Goldendoodle Lilah and have just has two blissful nights of her sleeping on her own, in her crate, downstairs while I slept in my own bed.

I purchased this travel crate; https://www.amazon.co.uk/Lightweight-Fabric-Carrier-Crate-Fleece/dp/B00KIQFQEG instead of a metal crate as I’m a softy and couldn’t put her in a metal one. It’s more robust than you would imagine and she chews and scrats sometimes but hasn’t done any damage so far. It collapses, is pretty lightweight so I can move it around easily and comes in different sizes. I went for large and will happily buy the next size when she’s outgrown it.

I did the treat thing to get her to check it out, I put her blanket, her snuggle pup, and some of my boyfriend’s PJs in it and moved on to zipping it up a door at a time - it has 3 zipped ‘doors’ including one at the top which she could pop her head out of. For the first couple of weeks she slept in this, next to my bed and I left the top open for the first few nights for her so she didn’t feel completely trapped. In the daytime I leave the side open with a blanket draped over the top and let her wander in and out of it at leisure- she takes naps in there and might potter over to the fireplace when it’s too warm. I only really zip her in if I’m out of the room or if she’s overtired for an enforced nap and despite some grumps, she does settle after a couple of minutes.

After realising that I actually need a break from her for my own sanity and so she learns some independence I decided it was time to move her out of my bedroom at night. In the last week, I spent a couple of nights on the sofa with her in her crate, in the exact same spot that it’s in throughout the day and for the last two nights I’ve let her get sleepy, zipped her in and gone to bed. Again, a little bit grumpy but no barking or whining and she’s slept for at least seven hours with no problems. I can’t say that this has been the quickest way to get her sleeping alone in her crate but I couldn’t face leaving her panicking as I didn’t want her to have a bad experience. Another great benefit is now that she’s comfortable in there at night, I can happily leave her zipped in there in the daytime for an hour without her going completely batshit crazy-when she’s tired anyway.

The other top tip I have- and I’m aware that this sounds crazy- but since her first night I have put on one of the bedtime stories from the Calm app. She likes the Matthew McConaughey one. Haha! Now, when it’s bedtime I turn lights off and Matthew on and she falls to sleep in five minutes! If you don’t have the app, there is probably something similar on YouTube.

Sorry for the long post but I feel your pain. It’s hard when you don’t want them to be upset but are deprived of sleep! Hope this helps. 🤷🏻‍♀️
