This is a game changer.

I 1-uped the upvote machine. I have a gaming keyboard, so naturally I had to macro an extra key on there to just upvote all the things.

u/ben_is_man · 5 pointsr/WTF

I'd probably go this route.

Keyboards

Not sure what your budget is, a G510 is a good gaming keyboard, or if you have the money, a G19 is also a great keyboard. They are made by Logitech, and have programmable "G" keys, and the backlight keys make it great for gaming at night, and they have USB ports built in to them, which you could plug a wireless mouse, or anything else into. Also the G19 has a full color display that you can download different little "apps" for that show anything from a Youtube video, to the internal temp. of your rig. If you're looking to spend a little less money, the Razer Arctosa is a pretty decent gaming keyboard, that also has programmable macro keys as well. I currently have a Logitech G15 v.2, and that's what I was going to recommend for you, but I was unable to find it for sale anywhere online.

Mice

Probably one of the best gaming mice you could get would be a Razer Mamba I've used them before, and I absolutely loved it. It's wireless, the scroll wheel is lit by LEDs, and it has a charging dock, meaning there's no AA batteries needed. A DeathAdder or an Abyssus are also good Razer mice that are inexpensive, but work good. It doesn't necessarily need to be a "gaming" mouse per-se, I use a Logitech MX-610 and it's great for anything.

If you have any questions or would like to know if something else you find is a good mouse/keyboard, shoot me a pm and I'll be glad to help you out.

My vote goes to the Logitech G510

I used the original G15 for 5+ years and loved that thing, never broke, no fading etc. The G510 is the next generation and I love it too.

Mice

  • Logitech G500 Programmable Gaming Mouse $57.39, probably the best bet for reliability and gaming functionality. I have 2 of these on different computers.

  • Logitech Corded Mouse (M500)$28.79

I can't personally recommend any Razer mice though I'm using a Razer Tron mouse at the moment. Every Razer mouse I've had, has had issues with the left mouse button randomly double clicking.

Keyboards, you can get away with a lot in the keyboard department as they all do pretty much the same thing. Here's a couple of options.

  • Logitech Keyboard K120 $11.97 It's just a standard keyboard, no bells no whistles. Not designed for gaming but will work fine for any game.
  • Microsoft SideWinder X4 Keyboard $47.70, Microsoft has been known to make the odd good keyboard here and there. This is so far as I know, one of them.
  • Logitech Gaming Keyboard G105 Call of Duty: MW3 Edition $64.99, Entry level gaming keyboard with programmable keys. If you can get past the Call of Duty branding on this device it'd probably be a pretty good keyboard for you and the programmable keys would work with any game.
  • Logitech Gaming Keyboard G110 $69.99, For $5 more you can get a game agnostic gaming keyboard with 12 programmable keys.
  • Logitech Gaming Keyboard G510 $99.67, Now you enter the realm of on keyboard displayed, these work pretty good for a lot of games. A friend of mine has one of these and it's served him very well. I've never seen the point of an on keyboard display as I've never used the one I've got for anything.

EDIT: I accidentally the whole description of a product.

I was intereted in THIS One, but from what you and others are saying, it'd be best to stay away from it? Some of the key features are what drew me in. The lights, and the fact that there an audio/mic jack on it....But I actually just remembered the MIC I just purchased is USB. HAH! I saw the keyboard you recommended and it looks like it's worth it. Why would you not recommend it? AND How big of a difference will the Mechanical Keyboard give me? Never owned one and I"m currently using the Keyboard/Mouse that came with my old desktop (prebuilt HP). Thanks!

I've been really happy with the G510. I've also owned a G110, which was also excellent.

I'm not a huge fan of the Razor keyboards as they have flatter keys, and they feel a bit more flimsy. I'd 100% go with Logitech G-Series of any kind.

I have a logitech G510 and this mechanical hyperx keyboard and honestly the only difference I noticed (from 15 minutes of testing both on the same maps) is that my G510 makes less noise unless im singletapping at a high bpm, in which case I think most of the noise is just coming from my finger hitting the keyboard. That being said, I've also seen other people say that they notice a lot of differences between membrane and mechanical, so I think it just depends on the person and what types of keyboards they used to use and which ones the switched to. I would try out o-rings first if you plan on buying a whole new keyboard though.

Thank you very much for your reply! I always wondered what professional players use to heal. I will definitely try healing with keybinds over the holidays. The only issue I have is with Shift which after a few hours I find hard to press since my little finger starts to hurt. I guess I will bind a longer cooldown to modify with shit.
Do you have any examples of your keybinds you'd be willing to share?

I currently have an old keyboard from Logitech

I have a hardware related question for WoW players:

I own a Logitech G510 key board but I am not happy with it.
https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-920-002530-Gaming-Keyboard-G510/dp/B003VAK16O

I use the additional keys on the side for hotkey access, but then I lose mobility of WASD keys from it. I have to reach over with my thumb to move and that causes problems when I'm trying to do things like melee DPS. I am also currently using the default UI in terms of keybinding and location. I was hoping to get some insight on how to make find a combination of consistent mobility while having good access to hotkeys for all situations. As an example, as a Protection Warrior I have a bad habit of turning my back away from the enemy when I need to move. I'd like to be able to move more effectively and be able to can use Shockwave effectively while keeping my necessary bindings like Ignore Pain with in easy reach.

Second in regards to the key board, it currently treats the G keys on the left side as F1. Is there some way for me to have them be separate keys so I can keep my default F1 keys? Should I ask PCMasterRace about this one?

I also use a Razor mouse with only 2 buttons on the the left side and a clicking mouse wheel.

In summary (TL;DR) How do I combine easy of mobility and ease of access to abilities/spells? Is this solved through the UI/Macro or would it be better to upgrade my mouse and keyboard?

Again if this is better for PC masterrace I can repost.

After doing my research and looking around and waiting I really want a new keyboard. I originally bought a new one because the one I was using had some issues. When the newboard came in, I pulled apart the old one and cleaned it and it seemed to fix the issues I had been having. The new board had to be sent back because it was a faulty Razer (I know I know) and replaced it. That board had the same fault. Giving up on Razer for the time being even though I like the designs. Also my buddy gave me the board when I built my first computer so I was sorta thinking of upgrading it and showing him how much I appreciated the incredible keyboard he gave me simply because he didn't need it anymore.

Anyway, while I wait on my refund I wondered if it would be worth it or how much it would cost to fix up the old board instead. It is a Logitech G510 http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-920-002530-Gaming-Keyboard-G510/dp/B003VAK16O

I don't like the mushy keys and want the tactile click of a Cherry red or blue. So I need to deep clean it, but can I get Cherry to fit if I were to buy new switches and some new keys too? Can I even put new switches in this ?

EDIT: questions answer and solved thank you Metaldrake
