Yeah I seen that when I googled it. I don't think you can make a controller as precise as KB/M. There was a company I think was designing one but they are not shipping as far as I know. In my PC gaming days I used a Logitech Marble Trackman mouse for Quake III and was always accused of being a bot an actual character bot. So much so that game servers would actually send character bots out after me. Sigh. The good ole days. Anyway, the XBox/PS controllers joystick doesn't work well for aiming in FPS. Maybe a controller that has a mouse ball for one of the joysticks would be a nice. This is the mouse, not the new ones: https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-TrackMan-Marble-Wheel-Mac/dp/B00004L8IG

Ah, my bad. I owned the OG "Trackman Marble" (same name, but that thumb-ball form factor and in the beige era : https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-TrackMan-Marble-Wheel-Mac/dp/B00004L8IG )

I highly agree with your sentiment that the centered ball type/form factor was weird and unusable. But I do know someone who swears by it. Really weird.

I thought the new one was named the Trackman Marble too. But yes, I also owned that gray/red model (Trackman Wheel). And the wireless black/blue M570 that followed it.

Sadly, their microswitch quality has gone downhill in recent years. I would've moved on to the MX Ergo, but the prices are just insane and the microswitches are still prone to failure. I've since switched to gaming mice and am really happy with their crazy-precise sensors. I miss having a good thumb trackball though.

I also got an Elecom thumb trackball. It's like the Trackman Wheel, but with a few extra buttons, a better sensor and a fancier mousewheel. Feels alright to use. Would recommend if you're really sticking to that form factor. I don't know if I would've enjoyed it long-term but I eventually just gave mine to my sister's husband to use when his Trackman Wheel broke. He's been happily using it for a year.
