Ok, story time. So a year ago I needed a new keyboard. I was tight on money so I my hopes were limited to corded cheapo no-brand keyboard, the disposable ones that become useless 6 months later, but for that exact reason I couldn't afford to go that way again: it's like a dumb's people tax.

I've always wanted to take the plunge and try one of those cordless keyboards, but the low battery life of the "affordable" range of cordless keyboards turned me off. I thought it was impossible to achieve "logitech-like" insane battery life below the range of US$30, like this.

That's when I noticed the mk220. It pops up only on Logitech's websites in developing countries on their currently available keyboards on sale. On developed ones it just shows on support pages.

This keyboard is an EXTREMELY low budget keyboard and mouse combo, marketed only on emerging markets it seems. I got it for MXN$230 1 year ago, and currently retails at MXN$260. Judging by the taxes and the usual overcharging practices in the local market, the price would be closer to US$15 or even lower for the combo.

It was a steal, and is without a doubt the best keyboard I have ever owned besides a Model M. They are extremely spartan. The mouse seems like a blob of black plastic, without any distinctive markings or alternate colors. But their quality is top notch. The keys are as good as new and the characters are firmly displayed like the first day I bought it, cero fading. The keyboard has the usual 24 months battery life and the mouse has 5 months, and they mean it. After one year, the mouse depleted their included batteries and is on the second charge of Sony's CycleEnergy batteries. The keyboard are still on their original batteries and the Logitech utility shows a completely mind-blowing "full charge".

I liked the real state I gained on my desk, maintaining an almost complete key count, key size and layout.

One year, still going strong. Today I swear by Logitech.

I'm thinking about getting the same exact combo as you (Corsair K70 with Blue LEDs and Cherry MX Red's, and a G502) coming from this. How are you liking it so far? Is Mechanical really as good as they say?

They can be pretty cheap if you decide you want to buy them.
It can make things easier.

I have no idea what that mouse would be, DPI wise. The Cobra has 3 DPI settings, and it's never given me any trouble.

Also, check and see what the shipping charges are for the 8350, the mobo, and the Zalman from MicroCenter to your location. Hate to ask the question, but did you check and see if there were any near you? There's one 45 minutes from my house, and I didn't even know about it until yesterday. No one really talks about MicroCenter all that much, lol.

Is this what you mean by the K260?

If so, the Gigabyte Force K3 looks pretty similar.

EDIT:

If you can't do Microcenter, this is what the build would like like, after $80 of rebates. If you need things to be $1350 before rebates, we'll either have to look at some refurbished/open box components (particularly the cooler, the memory, the GPU (we can get one for $275), the power supply, and the SSD) or axe the super-nice monitor for now.

Some things we already had: an old CRT tv for a monitor and RCA cable, a spare power strip, the SD card for the OS, an old phone charger for power supply, and the powered USB hub. So I only had to buy a keyboard & mouse (I decided on wireless) and a wifi dongle. So it cost me less than $40 in accessories, YMMV.

Be sure to check the Verified Peripheral List on elinux.org. Both of the items I linked above are on that list, but they have a pretty comprehensive list of dozens of peripherals that definitely do or definitely do not work with the Pi.

I have that keyboard/mouse combo, and there's nothing really special about it other than the led backlight. The mouse is clunky and not that comfortable, and the keyboard is ok. I prefer the ergonomics of the Logitech MK260 to be honest. But, of course, keyboard and mouse preferences are subjective.
