Look for alternate ways to use cheap ingredients. I have several packages of a vegetable dip mix - this one to be precise: http://www.amazon.com/McCormick-Vegetable-0-46-Ounce-Pack/dp/B009M2XJJQ - I didn't want to make it as a dip - that's not 'food' but a snack that I don't need. So instead I mixed it with a bit of water, coated some frozen chicken drumsticks with it, and baked in the oven. Came out absolutely delicious and is stupidly easy cheap, and quick. All things a broke student loves. Whenever you see something on sale really cheap, think about what alternate ways you could use it that might work that would save you time and money.
