Hey man, glad to see you too are ready to face this problem! I made my "getting started" post about a week ago (lots of useful advice in the comments, check my post history).

I'm 20 years old, 6'4" and (was) 500lbs even. As of now, 3 days later, I've already dropped 5.8 lbs! I went into ketosis pretty quickly (around 36 hours).

Yes, I am new, but here's what I've been doing that's helped me so far:

I was pretty worried about the keto flu, so I've been guzzling smart water with the Mio mix everyone talks about here.

(It's cheaper at the grocery store).

I'm obviously not an expert, but I would say, yes you do need to up your electrolyte intake.

My calculated values are pretty high as well.

Everyone says to use this calculator:

https://www.ruled.me/keto-calculator/

I got:

2957 calories

247g fats

20g carbs

164g protein

In your post you said 20-30g of carbs, according to other's advice, you should really try to keep it under 20, at least for the first month. So far, it really hasn't been that hard.

Another thing I've been surprised about is that the whole "fat is more satiating" thing is 100% true.

I ate 3 eggs, 4 pieces of bacon, 2 sausage links, and string cheese for breakfast and it was 865 calories! Yes, that's quite a bit of food. About the size of my old breakfasts minus the bagel. See, what I'm doing is eating a big breakfast, a small snack in the middle of the day, and a pretty large dinner. I've been coming about around 1500-2200 calories every day, which is over a 50% deficit, and I'm not even really hungry!

So yes, it's pretty daunting at first, but it isn't so bad when you start.

As far as the medical stuff goes... I'm pretty useless. I'm sure there are others on this sub that will pop up and chime in. I'm a bit younger than you, but I haven't had any issues so far.

Also, according to some advice I got in my thread, we need to do IF (intermittent fasting). It will help with the weight loss, but more importantly, it will help make our skin less baggy when the weight comes off. I'm currently planning on getting surgery since I'm so young, but we'll just see when we get there. It doesn't happen so some people.

I was really confused about the IF thing, everyone kept saying do 16-8 IF. Basically, all that means is that you block off 8 hours of the day and eat all of your food during that time, and nothing else.

Other random tips:

-You said you bought kitchen gadgets, so you probably already did this, but GET A KITCHEN SCALE. It makes tracking food 1000x easier. Also, I got myself some personal measuring cups/spoons that I keep in my bedroom so that I always know they are clean when I need to make food.

-There isn't a lot stuff (that I've found at least) that's super quick to make. I personally am not too into sacrificing my Sundays for "meal prep", but I have started making things in bulk, like 10 chicken breasts, a whole pack of bacon, or a dozen boiled eggs that I can eat on for a few days.

-Portioning out snacks is helpful, snacks are probably the hardest department of keto.

-Don't give up and don't cheat!-I've been spending a lot of time on this sub and it's helping me stay motivated.

Let me know if you have any questions! Good luck!

I drink mine out of mason jars that has 24oz so I'll give a recipe for that size. You could make it in big bottles and pour out portions.

24 oz water - filtered
3 squirts Mio - Electrolytes
1/4 tsp LiteSalt

Mix and enjoy!
