I take 2600 mg (two pills) each of evening primrose oil and borage oil a day. One of each in the morning and one of each in the evening before bed. Been doing it for over three years now.

The evening primrose oil is high in linoleic acid (LA) and I find it really takes the edge off of hormonal swings (pms, cramps, etc.) The borage oil is high in gamma-linoleic acid (GLA) and I find it does wonders for acne and skin inflammation. I was one of those people that had the classic breakouts along the jawline during certain parts of my cycle, and now my face is totally clear. I also have mild eczema and taking the borage oil helped a lot with those as well.

That said, taking the evening primrose oil is enough to help with acne for a lot of folks. I just happened to be one of those that needed more help.

Other things I do to help with my myriad skin issues:

  • BHA chemical exfoliant in the morning, AHA chemical exfoliant in the evening before bed.
  • Avoid products with fatty alcohols, sulfates, and silicones for skin and hair. This includes moisturizers, cleansers, shampoo, conditioners, and makeup. I found that all of those either caused eczema or acne flare-ups in one way or another.
