In what way does it "suck"? 90% of what makes something look good is lighting, staging, and composition. From there all the camera has to do is just capture light.

Lighting is extremely important in making a shot look good.

Try one of these, and then get some C-47s and attach some diffusion. If you need to, fold it over to cut and soften the light even more. And remember the inverse square law when placing your light. The most expensive part of that setup will be the light bulb itself. Just make sure you get one that's the right color.

Ideally you'd have at least three of these things, for a three point lighting setup, but you might be able to make things work with just one or two if you set things up right. The problem is fewer lights means more shadows.

It's suboptimal, and it doesn't offer nearly as much control as even cheap LED panels do, but it works in a pinch.
