Here is a list of things that people will always need, I understand you can't stock everything as overhead is an issue with retail, and storage as well, but most of these are small enough that they can occupy the shelf space you currently have. As for the larger things, like the 2020 extrusions, you could sell them in common lengths of 500mm and 1000mm and let the customer cut them down to the size they need, or just don't carry these at all. It's not a niche item, but for a retail store like you it would be hard to store and maintain, but man, would it be nice to be able to get those locally if i needed a piece for a project instead of having to wait on mail order.

  • PSU 12v/24v
  • Fans 30mm/40mm in 12v/24v
  • PEI 200mm, 250mm, 300mm for Deltas and 300x300 for Cartesian, CoreXY.
  • E3D Hotends
    • v6
    • Volcano
    • Titan Aero
    • Nozzle Variety Pack
    • Thermistors
    • Pro Socks
    • Heater Cartridges
    • Volcano Nozzles
    • Heat Breaks
  • Boro Glass
  • Spatulas similar to this style
  • Plastic Razor Blades
  • Capricorn PTFE Tubing 1.75/3mm variants
  • Screws, Cap head, M3, M4, M5 etc.
  • 2020 Extrusion, 2040 Extrusion etc

this is just a basic list, others have listed other things as well, Steppers, Belts, Pulleys, Bearings etc. If you want 3d printing as a reason for other people to go to your store, these items will satisfy the need. Just keep prices fair, I have no issue paying a bit more compared to amazon to get it today.

Here's some videos of misc parts and pieces;

power supply

controller

stepper motors

Thanks! Yes I'm planning on using it with that big bin haha :)

In actuality it was really cheap compared to some of the LED UFOs out there. The fans weren't all that expensive, the LEDs were amazingly cheap (and I'm sure they could be found cheaper on other sites), and even the power supply was pretty cheap. It just takes a lot more setup compared to UFOs

EDIT: And most of the stuff can probably be found cheaper, as shown by the PriceZombie

Umm it definitely is upgradable. it just requires other parts to do so. the upgraded powersupply to run a heated bed and 2nd extruder is $23 on amazon.

and a nema 14 stepper off ebay for $13

It's an excellent printer even without those upgrades.

here's a print I did last night.

biggest mod it needs is a part cooling fan installed which you can print yourself off thingiverse and buy a $3 40mm fan.

Awesome, thanks so much for the answers.

Most of my flying is at low altitudes, just trying to get an elevated video shot, so even 10m can be enough. Short flight times seem to be my main issue and no number of batteries solves the issue.

Do you think this power supply would work?

How about two lead acid batteries in series? I have a few UPS batteries kicking around - can they handle the load?

Will a multimeter correctly read the voltage drop at the end of the wire (without a load on the wire)?

Again, thanks a ton for your help. I will post results if I get it up and flying!

Also, I highly recommend getting yourself a drone. I use this one occasionally at work and every time I feel like a kid at christmas with a new toy. They are stupid easy to fly and getting video from them is a total bonus!

The SFU1605 and SFU2005 are just ballscrew designations, SFU is single nut, there is also DFU which is double nut, bit lower backlash, higher cost. The 16 or 20 designates the screw diameter in mm and the 05 is 5mm of lead per rotation.

I don't think you will have luck with the -12 volt line, you can try the boost converter at 24 volts or run it at 12 volts, just have a bit lower top speed. amazon also sell fairly inexpensive power supplies.

It may also make sense to build a small test machine with a design like this to learn a bit more about the undertaking and have less invested in materials if you need/want to change something.

Also if you are located in Minnesota near the twin cities I might be able to help make some parts for the build.

Happy to help, always nice seeing more people interested.

Im using exactly what he had put in the guide, maybe a different manufacturer of the cheap Chinese Leds, but others than that the same. My circuitry is pretty straight forward , 3 prong plug to the power supply, a positive and negative running out to each of 2 buck boosters, which are each wired to 2 100 watt Leds in parallel. I was hoping to add a third buck booster to the power supply
