Well, since you're trying to shoot for > $50, I've had great luck with this:
TuneLink Auto Bluetooth in Car Stereo Wireless Adapter
Honestly, I'm surprised by the negative reviews it has.
It's more compact than other brands, includes a charging port, can connect via AUX or FM, can be renamed (small detail, but mine now says Mazda AUX1), and has different pairing options: it can be configured to auto-pair (or not), auto-play (or not), and also configured to allow/disallow sharing (all phones in the car can take turns connecting).
Paired with a CD-slot magnetic phone mount (most of which are under $20), it's been a great solution for me (my CD slot is high on the dash). In fact, I may be upset when my next car doesn't have a CD slot.
I can glance at GPS as effortlessly as looking at my speedometer or tap to dismiss an alert as effortlessly as changing the station on the radio (Apple, please let Siri allow me to dismiss alerts). It's probably debatable if that action passes as hands-free or not; do it when stopped.
It's Bluetooth audio only (doesn't have a mic and can't take Bluetooth calls), but it fit my unique situation where my car has Bluetooth headset capabilities but doesn't support Bluetooth audio for music, etc.
I bought it yesterday at Best Buy for $60. It's cheaper than the New Potato version of this on Amazon.
Although the New Potato one comes with extra features, I just wanted something simple and cheaper that would work. So far so good. I just leave it inside the center console and never have to think about it. When you turn on your car it connects automatically. Then, just choose a song and play. I use it with Spotify mostly.
