Im a mechanical watch person, and my go to suggestions in the under $200 price range are Orient and Seiko. Even the $70 Seiko 5. I have had one of these for near a decade and it still just chugs along. Probably the most suggested budget dress watch has to be the Orient Bambino. If youre looking for a quality quartz that has chrono functions, I dont think the Timex Weekender can be beat.

There are others, but those can get you started.

Here's a very popular MFA watch. Not defending it, I'm just as surprised as you that it's still in use today.

While Swatches are fine (in my book, anyways), I don't know that it would be the best fit with a suit and tie. You say you've looked through our buying guide, and your $150 budget puts you squarely into Orient Bambino range, pretty much the most recommended dress watch under $200. There are a few different styles and versions of the Bambino, including (but not limited to) the Bauhaus and the Roman Numerals. There is also the new Orient Symphony II coming in with sapphire crystal. If you like the look of the "guts" of the watch showing through, there's the Orient Esteem open heart.

There is also the popular Citizen NH8350 series, including the much sought after NH8350-83L, but there are other colors and designs including the NH8350-59L and NH8350-08B.

I know you said you already own a Seiko 5, but for around $100 you could definitely find a dressy model that would fit with business wear.

Depending on how formal of an environment we're talking about here, you could get away with something more sporty with business casual, like an Orient Mako II.

Is it a one day trip?

I like the shirt a lot - I’d recommend pairing it with light chinos rather than white pants unless you want to make bolder a statement though.

Sperry’s are perfect - great call there. White will look totally normal with light chinos.

Don’t buy a MVMT watch. It’ll stop working in 6 months and that particular model (47MM) is way too big. Depending on your budget you can get a dressy Seiko 5, Orient Bambino, or even a Seiko Presage - all of which will last for decades - for under $250.

If you’re looking for a new watch I’d recommend an automatic movement and sapphire crystal if possible - some reputable cheaper brands include Timex, Seiko, Orient, and Tissot.

Sunglasses look good - it’s hard to go wrong with a classic style like clubmasters.

I’d wear a brown or tan belt - maybe try and match it to the laces of the shoes if you want to really complete the look.

I wouldn’t recommend a hat - it’s rare that men can look good with a hat on in this context. That’s just my opinion though - take it with a grain of salt.

One of my old watches recently died, so I've been looking at getting a new one. The one that caught my eye was this Stuhrling watch, but it seems like the brand isn't well regarded. Are there any similar options to look at instead? My necessary features are small bezels, a plain white face, and a cloth or leather strap. The thin blue hands on this one are also really nice and a date indicator would be preferable.

EDIT: I've decided to get an orient bambino like this. Thanks for the help guys.

Good Afternoon All,

First, I would like to note that I have read the FAQ, buying guide, etc.

Goal: I would like everyone's input on which dress watch to purchase as an every day watch given my work attire (business casual at times, but most often a tailored suit). Ideally I am looking for a watch which says, "I am highly competent and successful professional" without coming off as excessively showy or pretentious (it would be hard to build client relationships if I am leading a business analysis program and talking with people making $60,000 a year while I am wearing a $15,000 watch and billing the firm $300-$500 an hour). Alternatively, I don't want to amplify the go-to, "Fuck you kid" attitude I occasionally get from individuals when I am working with C-suite executives, by wearing a watch "outside of my social status". On this basis, I'm thinking nothing over $2,500 pre-tax.

I'm sorry if this is akin to asking for an ultra light fillet knife which can fillet fish yet also fell a tree...if it is - let me know. The watches I am currently considering are based on how I think they look (primary importance) and the necessity of a little prestige/"wow factor" (distant, but still needed...I can't roll with a Timex no matter how nice it may look)...I'm thinking a steel or silver watch body, a white, ivory, or silver dial, and a black leather strap.

Possibly relevant information - I am a 27 year old management consultant who has worked in a variety of sectors (non-profit, state government, department of defense, private + have also founded, run, and sold businesses). I am often the youngest person on most engagements to which I am assigned as I specialize in project management, change management, and strategic management. Very frequently I am the leading consultant on an engagement - despite my young age. I may be taking an exit opportunity to work as an independent senior project management consultant for mega-financial institution. I am not a watch connoisseur by any means.

Watches I am considering - Mido Baroncelli III, Omega De Ville, and a Frederique Constant Classics Silver Dial

I first purchased an Orient 2nd Generation Bambino Version 2 based upon the great reviews the company gets on this subreddit and my fondness of the styling...but I was a bit underwhelmed when the watch arrived.

Bottom line - what are your thoughts on the watches I linked? Am I missing a better opportunity? Any general comments or thoughts? Thanks guys.

I'd always recommend buying a solid automatic watch. Watches like MK, DW, fossil, etc, are cheaply made with Chinese parts and usually run on quartz and are meant to be replaced when they start to break down. Investing in an automatic can really ensure you have a great watch that will last.

Like mentioned, the skx007 is a great watch and will last you a lifetime. You can also mod this watch quite easily as well and the movement will last forever. Many watch enthusiasts love Seiko, myself included (have 3 will probably get more). Seiko 5's are also solid entry-level watches and many come in around the $100 mark depending on model: https://www.amazon.com/Seiko-SNK789-Automatic-Stainless-Steel/dp/B0018N0HL0/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=seiko+5&qid=1565104496&s=gateway&sr=8-4

The Orient Bambino is also a great entry-level automatic dress watch with a few different dial combos: https://www.amazon.com/Orient-Bambino-Japanese-Automatic-Stainless/dp/B01N45HWRM

For a cheaper diver, the Orient Ray/Mako lines are good as well: https://www.amazon.com/Orient-FAA02004B9-Display-Japanese-Automatic/dp/B01AK5TQXG/ref=sr_1_2?crid=K6K5EI9K3HA7&keywords=orient+mako+2&qid=1565104421&s=gateway&sprefix=orient+mako%2Caps%2C187&sr=8-2

If you can spend more you can look at Hamilton's Khaki line or Jazzmaster, Seiko Sumo or Seiko Sarb033, Sinn Watches, Chris Ward, Squale, Junker's Bauhaus or Max bill if you like the Daniel Wellington Style.

You can even look at used/vintage and get a nice Omega Seamaster for ~$500

This one, although the face is a light beige, not white:

Despite it's elegance, I am wearing it every day with both casual work clothes as well as sport coat/jeans. It's my first watch (I'm nearly 40) and I'm very happy with it.

While not exactly what you’re looking for, this Orient Bambino is an option.

I really like the pen btw, if you want something that is similar, I would recommend looking at Mother of Pearl dials like this Sinn.
