For the work that you are doing, I'd actually suggest to get neither. I'd instead invest in the newer GH5s so as to take advantage of great low-light performance. It has a slight edge over the GH5 in image quality... only thing it's missing is IBIS which actually may hurt you if you get too close to those vibrating speakers (will cause the floating sensor inside the camera to go nuts from personal experience). Pair it with a lens like this one that has optical IS for handheld and you will be all set. Or, if you are heavily invested in canon glass, pick up a speedbooster. >how does it compare to a GH5s?
u/chillern1f - if budget permits, I recommend the GH5s with a gimbal. Here's why:
You can fix the GH5s' lack of image stabilization with a gimbal - but you cannot fix the GH5's lack of 240 fps slow motion - or its noisy images at high ISO.
Here is an example of a low light doc shot with the GH5s. The GH5 would have struggled in this situation.
BTS here.
And here is rock-solid, stable video shot with the GH5s and a $499 DJI Ronin S gimbal:
A GH5s with a gimbal will give you much smoother images than IBIS.
That said, there are a couple of down sides to the GH5s:
Bottom line: either camera will give you great images - and each has their pros and cons - but overall, the GH5s will give you better image quality in a wider range of lighting conditions.
Again, hope this is helpful and good luck with your decision!
Cameras designed to record for periods of several hours at a time do not have this problem. He is likely using a DSLR which is not designed for lengthy video recording. Many DSLR cameras can record video but they are only tested and designed to record for the duration of what you could fit on an internal memory card, which isn't very long. They aren't designed to record for hours at a time.
This is a very common mistake and it leads to overheating as he's experienced. He needs to sell that camera and buy equipment suited to his needs.
Here's an example of one that is designed for long video recording which would work for streaming: https://www.amazon.com/Mirrorless-Sensitivity-Multi-Aspect-Megapixels-DC-GH5S/dp/B078J119BC
I would plump for either the panasonic GH5 or panasonic GH5S or the Sony A7III (referral links). GH5S and A7III have better lowlight than the GH5, but that has better stabilisation than either.
then you'd just need your lens, something like panasonic 12-35mm f2.8 which is a solid multipurpose workhorse, you could also get some primes if you knew what sort of thing you'd be doing.
Also you'd need a little allowance for microphones, as generally on board mics aren't great
What happens in this situation is a third party will import the international model to the United States, but the camera itself is the same. The difference comes if you have a problem with the camera. You won't be able to get warranty service from Panasonic, and they might even give you problems trying to get service out of warranty. It says there's a warranty on the product listing, but they've basically added the generic product specifications and the warranty will not apply. That's the risk you would have to take for a few hundred dollars savings.
If I were you, I would actually get a used Like New model for $2002.89, since it's a similar price. You won't necessarily get a warranty with that (I'm not sure about it), but if it's a US model you should still be able to pay to get it serviced.
Otherwise, that's a great choice of camera, and I'm sure it will serve you well.
