Looks like I am going to go with the following:

I bought this 2x4 kit a week ago. 3000mhz CL16 for $72.

I'd reccomend it over your current RAM

u/skaymonkey · 3 pointsr/buildapc

I wouldn't get a cpu cooler, the stock one is fine. I would also get slightly faster ram.

Edit: Thanks for the silver OP, glad I could help you out

u/DayneTreader · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

Only one stick limits bandwidth and is detrimental to iGPUs. I found a 2x4gb kit that's cheap enough you can buy two of them if you want: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0157UPYZ8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_IpkXCb8XHQNA5

8GB Dual channel, 3000mhz.

If you are definitely definitely going to upgrade to 16GB, then that's fine to get a single 8GB stick. That being said, the difference between single channel and dual channel would make up the performance difference between the 1300x and the 1600 in gaming. The $10 or $20 extra you spend extra to get dual channel will make an absolutely massive difference.

u/ZoroUzumaki · 2 pointsr/buildapc

The 2200g igpu is so close to the 1030 that it isn't worth spending $90 on a GT 1030 imo

I would get faster ram. This is the same price as the Crucial ram.

> Seems like a unbelievable price to performance return point.

It really is, ever since AMD released Ryzen 1000 series, Intel's been feeling the heat. Well priced products that perform great is always good for competition.

As far as cases, I've been eyeballing this one because it has good cooling, with an acceptable price. Only real drawback is that it doesn't have a slot for an optical disk drive. Coolermaster has one with an ODD, but it isn't sold in the USA.

You may be able to re-use your case, unless it's from a prebuilt computer (particularly Dell / Alienware) your new board should fit in it just fine.

I was going to recommend This mATX case, but decided against it because I don't think your video card will fit. If you've got a stubby / short 1060 it might work, but I wouldn't bet on it.

This case is the cheapest case I can find that I'm confident will fit everything you have. $40ish.

8 GB RAM is what you need if you're gaming. 4 GB will bottleneck. If you get a 2X4 GB combo now, you can upgrade to 16 GB later with an additional 2X4 GB kit. In the meantime, look up how to take advantage of "Dual Channel RAM" on your motherboard. Also, make sure you get 3000mhz RAM, the speed makes a considerable difference on AMD CPUs.

2X4GB (8 GB total): [link] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0157UPYZ8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_WXmiDbH8KM7MB). You can select 2X8GB (16 total) if you want, but you don't need it for most games now, and if you prefer older games anyhow, it's a waste of your budget.

If you're going to splurge on anything in your new build, I highly recommend it being your PSU, especially since your old PSU likely killed your motherboard. A modular PSU will look much more tidy, since you can unplug cables that you don't need. I personally trust Corsair's RM series, though the lowest wattage (cheapest) one is still $130: Link.

If that's too much, or if your case doesn't have a Window and aesthetics don't matter, and old 500 watt PSU will do fine. 600 watts if you want some breathing room. Keep a look out for anything with a 3-5 year warranty from the manufacturer (look on their website for this info, don't trust Amazon); those are typically built better and are less likely to fail.

This is the cheapest PSU that I'd personally recommend. 500 Watts is fine for what you have, I think 450 watts is pushing on the "too low" side though.

Edit: All my links are ugly, give me a few minutes to tidy up.

Edit of edit: links tidied up. Also, 450 watts, not $450. (Near the end.)

i am able to change settings in bios and computer does not crash but nothing actually changes.

the corsair sticks that i purchased are not on the asrock qvl list for the ab350m pro 4 so i just ordered new sticks off amazon - patriot 3000 (2x4gb) - which are on the qvl list

i dropped down to 8gb but i don't think it will be a problem...and i'm really happy that it will save me ~$100.

i should get the memory today, so i'll report back with the speeds.

u/rowanhopkins · 1 pointr/buildapc

im just looking at upgrading my processor to a ryzen 7 1700 and was wondering if this ram is compatible with the asrock b450 fatal1ty k4 motherboard

I was wondering if there's any discernible difference between this RAM kit and this RAM kit? I'm having trouble what to search to get proper benchmarks between the two, so I wouldn't mind if you just linked a review that covers it if that's what you prefer.

I initially went for the Elite series (first link) for $60 but was later told by the vendor that they wouldn't be able to sell it to me anymore. However, what they could do is give me the non-Elite series (second link) for the same price. It was a spur of the moment thing and I figured I wouldn't be able to sit on it so I just accepted it.

Either way, I feel like $60 for 8 GB DDR4 3000 RAM is pretty good with the prices right now. I just want to know if it was a 1:1 trade essentially or if I was downgraded significantly. If it matters, I'll be using it with the Ryzen 3 1200 and Asus B350-F Strix mobo.

Any general thoughts about the RAM would be welcome as well.

u/Stasky-X · 1 pointr/buildapc

So adding this as RAM would work? Better than the one I mentioned on my first comment?

I might wait on the CPU upgrade since it is more expensive, but I could buy RAM for now and see how it goes.

Also, how does this RAM compare to the one before? Is it worth the difference in price?

u/FiftyShadesOfGraves · 1 pointr/buildapc

what do you think about https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0157UPYZ8/?tag=pcpapi-20 ?

also for overclocking would i need to buy additional fans?

u/Mothimania · 1 pointr/buildapc

Like others have said, I would go for some faster RAM. This one is what I ended up getting for my build. I'm actually running the same MOBO and CPU as you, with an MSI 1050 TI. It's been working great for me. But again, as others have also said, it's not a huge deal and as long as your kid isn't planning on running super intensive stuff then 2400 should be more than fast enough. Nice build!

u/morales52904 · 1 pointr/buildapc

hows this

u/Nazthatguy · 1 pointr/buildapc

Go with 2x4gb of 3000mhz ram like this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0157UPYZ8/?tag=pcpapi-20

u/ne_wow · 1 pointr/GamingPCBuildHelp

You could get this if you just want to get 8gb
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0157UPYZ8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_gwW6CbRQ25X68

Or if you're fine with spending 80 more dollars definitely get the Corsair vengeance LPX 16gb

u/ryguy867 · 1 pointr/buildapc
  1. You don’t have to buy a registered version of windows (getting you back on budget) and could instead download it from Microsoft’s website onto a usb drive (must be at least 8gb) and use that to install windows. Here’s a good video explaining how to do it.
  2. Dual channel ram is much faster than single channel, and here’s a pack for about the same price as the one you found.
  3. You need to put your os on a ssd or else it will take minutes to boot. Here’s one for $20 that should suffice.
  4. The 590 is basically a rebooted 580 , and if you want to save a few bucks the 580 is only a little worse than the 590.

Patriot Memory 8 GB PC4 – 24000 is the better deal of the three. Cheapest and the Fastest.

u/TakeHerToFrance · 1 pointr/buildapc

I have 4x4gb sticks of this RAM - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0157UPYZ8/?tag=pcpapi-20, and a Ryzen 5 1600 CPU.

My question - Is it crucial that I upgrade to cl14 3200 ram, such as the G.SKILL TridentZ? I've been told, and read multiple times that cl14 ram is the best ram for ryzen cpu's. I've also been told that 2x8 is better for ryzen than 4x4. I am running this ram at 2933 stable.

u/davidthedemon1 · 1 pointr/buildapcforme

I don't know much about pcs, but i was wondering why you chose that ram? wouldnt this (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0157UPYZ8/?tag=pcpapi-20) be better? Its faster and 8gb

u/pugdogs10 · 1 pointr/PcMasterRaceBuilds

Wow this was so incredibly helpful, thank you! So if I do upgrade to the motherboard you posted, which I think I'm going to, would you suggest 2x8GB RAM or 4x4? I'm not sure if there is a difference between the two. Will any DDR4 RAM fit in my motherboard? I found a 2x4GB DDR4-3000 on amazon and want to make sure it would fit before I order.

For the video card I mostly plan on playing games like fortnite and rocketleague, will the GTX 1060 3GB be good enough for that? I really don't need super high level graphics, but obviously I still want it to look good. I just want to make sure it runs at 1080p 60 fps. Im also wondering how important single vs double fan is?

EDIT: I also noticed on that motherboard you posted it says 4x DDR4-2667/2400/2133 for memory. DOes that mean I can't use DDR4 2666?

u/BadgerMolester · 1 pointr/buildapc

I've already got 8gb ram but I need 16gb to play pubg and rust as the lag is unbearable, can I use 2 different brands of ram together as long as they are the same spec as there is cheaper ram with the same spec as the current ram I have.
