If you don't want to or are not sure how to install a graphcs card, you can get a usb one that just plugs in to a spare usb slot; https://www.amazon.co.uk/d/Adapters/Plugable-Graphics-Multiple-2048x1152-1920x1080/B00A2E1MQA/ref=pd_sim_23_5?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=9BM5Y6ERM76F4Z54MH9R

Yes. You can either get a Miracast wireless receiver like this:
https://www.amazon.com/Actiontec-ScreenBeam-Wireless-Receiver-SBWD60A01/dp/B00O14JG2Y

Or a Displaylink-based USB adapter like this:
https://www.amazon.com/Plugable-Graphics-Multiple-2048x1152-1920x1080/dp/B00A2E1MQA

If you happen to have other devices to plug in at the same time, it might be worthwhile looking into USB-based docking stations which give you a lot more flexibility than just a single display adapter.

AFAIK, the OnePlus 3 doesn't support the DisplayPort or HDMI alternate modes for USB Type-C. If you really need DVI out and don't mind a slight dip in picture quality, you could use a DisplayLink DVI adapter with a USB A to USB C adapter and their app.

>How would i split my laptops only hdmi port for one hdmi screen and one vga only port screen into a extended screen ???

You won't. HDMI is only capable of running one screen at a time.

You'd have to add a USB adapter similar to this.

You could buy a straight cable that goes from DVI to micro-HDMI, like so: https://www.amazon.com/Cablecc-Micro-cablecc-Cable-Droid/dp/B015HL7QC6/ref=sr_1_5?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1486919013&sr=1-5&keywords=micro-hdmi+to+dvi+cable

For the second display, you could get a USB to DVI/HDMI/VGA converter and run the appropriate cable, like so: https://www.amazon.com/Plugable-Graphics-Multiple-2048x1152-1920x1080/dp/B00A2E1MQA/ref=sr_1_3?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1486919113&sr=1-3&keywords=usb+to+dvi

I haven't personally used one of the USB devices, so I'm not sure how well they work, but the reviews say they should be fine.

You want a multi monitor kvm. How many monitors do you need? What type of connection? Looks like you want 4 ports.

Try getting one of these https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B002RCTNKW/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1494899122&sr=8-3&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=kvm+dvi+4+port+switch&dpPl=1&dpID=41GJjaVQtGL&ref=plSrch

And one of these https://www.amazon.com/Plugable-Graphics-Multiple-2048x1152-1920x1080/dp/B00A2E1MQA

Plug the displaylink into the extra port on the back of kvm. This should get you dual monitors. If you're lucky, you could plug a second into the front for triple monitors, but remember you're pulling them through a single usb port.

My work laptop also has an HDMI port and a VGA port, but they both can't be used at the same time. Since I also don't game on my laptop, I got a $45 USB to DVI (HDMI and VGA also available) adapter. I now have 2 separate displays plus the laptop screen working just fine. Windows just see's all three like normal.

Simplest possible way to do this.

I have a Plugable USB to HDMI converter for the first monitor, and my second monitor is HDMI. Haven't experienced any resolution or latency degradation from the conversion.

Edit: As far as opening the lid, I don't need to. I disabled hibernation and put it to sleep when I'm done with it, restarting every day or two. I'm looking into the ability to use a WOL (wake on LAN) feature so I can boot from shutdown with my phone which would bypass the lid switch.

A lot of people say they have problems with sleep on SSDs, but I've had none thus far.

I purchased the Pluggable USB 3.0 model and it's worked like a charm. I didn't feel like trying some of the cheaper adapters out there and went with the one with the most positive reviews.

u/bradleygkv · 1 pointr/macsetups

I use this adapter USB 3.0 to DVI adapter:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00A2E1MQA?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00

There's a bit of lag with it and the translucency effect is disabled on the connected monitor, but it's much better than only having one monitor.

u/toxeia · 1 pointr/buildapc

So, curiosity has me here. For my office when a user needs a third monitor I've started buying these USB 3.0 to VGA adapters: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00A2E1MQA/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

My understanding is that these operate off of the CPU - an image is rendered, and then only the pixels that change are processed by the CPU. So I wonder if you could actually make do with one of these by running graphics entirely off of CPU cycles rather than using a GPU...

u/Dwn2Clwn · 1 pointr/techsupport

You can only run 2 monitors on this card. This is the cheapest way to add another monitor although it does not support eyefinity(spanning a game across all monitors) and it has a slightly lower frame rate. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00A2E1MQA/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1501119576&sr=8-3&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=usb+to+dvi&dpPl=1&dpID=41uQzx-rUrL&ref=plSrch

Mount a cheapo monitor on your rig and hook it up to his USB 3.0 adapter. Works great for setting up games from your rig seat. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00A2E1MQA/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Unless your TV has a USB input and your computer can download software to support it (very unlikely), there's not really any way to do this without getting some kind of adapter. Your best bet is to find a USB to VGA or HDMI adapter. SS USB sounds like USB3.0, so if you can find an adapter that supports that (like this or this), you might have better quality than a regular USB adapter.

Depending on what you're trying to do, you might look into a Chromecast...it's like a small, wireless Media device that is controlled by your computer or phone. You may have some luck streaming your screen to it, but that's not what it is meant for. There are other adapters that can stream screens via wi-fi, but this still isn't the greatest way to do things.

I mean...these are all workarunds. Obviously, the ideal situation would be to have an output. But here are some options for you that I hope are helpful.

u/tms10000 · 1 pointr/buildapc

This laptop only has one port to connect a display. It's labeled HDMI on the laptop.

To connect either monitor, you need a DVI connector. That's the white one in the pic, it has 8x3 rows a holes and dash looking hole next to those. You need an HDMI to DVI adapter.

If you want a second monitor, you might get a Display Link adapter that works over USB. Something like this:

https://www.amazon.com/Plugable-Graphics-Multiple-2048x1152-1920x1080/dp/B00A2E1MQA/

But those aren't great.

u/finglongerUK · 1 pointr/techsupport

sorry but you are aware are you not that you can only output grapics over USB-c not standard USB 2 or 3? and not all usb-c devices will support grapics out, if the usb-c port supports graphics it will have the hdmi or display port symbol next to the socket

looking at the aspire A114-32

https://www.acer.com/ac/en/GB/content/model/NX.GVZEK.008

it looks like that model only has standard USB which does not support graphics

the square USB socket your referring to on the monitor will be for the USB hub on the monitor not for graphics. to connect to that monitor from your laptop you will need to use a hdmi to dvi or hdmi to vga adaptor cable
https://www.philips.co.nz/c-p/190B7CB_75/lcd-monitor

edit: just found these on amazon
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Plugable-Graphics-Adapter-DisplayLink-DL-3100-Chipset-Black/dp/B00A2E1MQA

looks like it is possible to output gaphics over usb but you would need to input the graphics to either the DVI (white) or VGA socket on the monitor. but to my knowledge the graphics chip and\or usb sockets still need to support graphics over usb

edit2: hdmi to VGA cables are cheaper and more likely to work

u/jimichunga · 1 pointr/VIDEOENGINEERING

We have a gaggle of Acers with both VGA & HDMI out. While they can be used simultaneously, for some reason Windows doesn't allow for the internal screen & 2nd output to be cloned.

Our workaround for this (& PCs with a single video out) is to use one of these USB 3 output devices.

All that said, we normally just run a second laptop with view modes flipped synced to a PerfectCue.

I want something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Plugable-Graphics-Multiple-2048x1152-1920x1080/dp/B00A2E1MQA/ for half the price. Does that exist?

Or do I just need to dial back to dual monitors and a second PC?

These are Asus VX247H-P 23.6" Full HD monitors, which run around $140 after rebate. They have inputs for VGA, DVI and HDMI, and VESA mount holes.

The mount is a modified Mount-It! desk mount for 6 monitors up to 21". I added about 11 inches to the 4 outside arms so that it will take the VS247's with sufficient clearance that I can tilt the top monitors in at about a 30 degree angle and still tilt them all down to face me. As you can see, that leaves gaps in the upper tier, which is where my speakers go.

My computer is an Asus G75VW, which has external video outpus for VGA, HDMI and DisplayPort. With a cheap VGA or HDMI adapter on the DisplayPort I can directly connect the bottom three monitors. I moved the OEM 900GB drive to the second drive bay and put a 256Gb SSD in the first. Still need to get the memory maxed out (running 8GB, which is cramped at times, but not yet so much that I've been motivated to buy more).

For the upper three monitors I added a 7 port USB 3 hub and three Plugable USB 2.0 to VGA/DVI/HDMI adapters for $40 each (there is a nicer model available now, which supports higher resolutions and speeds). Up to six of these will run on a system.

On the back I have RGB LED strip ($25) which provides nice mood lighting, and also illuminates the keyboard at night. Pardon the mess of cables. I recently rearranged the monitor cables and haven't tied everything back up neatly yet. I'll probably get that done sometime in the next year or two).

On top of the center monitor is a Logitech C920 webcam for about $70, which gives pretty decent stereo audio and video quality for calls via Google Voice and Skype. The sound quality is mostly limited by the all-hard-surfaces room I have for an office.

The USB adapters run surprisingly well. The frame rate will drop if I try to run a video at a large size, but at smaller sizes (1/6th-ish screen size) i can see no judder from lack of bandwidth. When I watch videos full screen I put them on one of the three lower monitors.

When I want to go mobile I have to unplug three monitor cables, and two USB cables (two 7 port hubs, the USB 3 hub for monitors and USB drives, and a USB 2 hub for bluetooth headset and fitbit adapter (evidently the high frequency of USB 3 tends to interfere with these low-power wireless dongles, they work much more reliably on USB 2). The speakers on the monitor stand are plugged into the back of the monitor that is connected via HDMI.

All together the monitor setup was about $1160.

Outside of this advice you can buy multiple usb to display adapters to get as many monitors as you need.

Plugable USB 3.0 to VGA / DVI / HDMI Video Graphics Adapter for Multiple Monitors up to 2048x1152 / 1920x1080 (Supports Windows 10, 8.1, 7, XP) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00A2E1MQA/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_Yr3mxbPS93ZKC

My work uses a handful of these with employee laptop docks to give a 4 monitor setup(plus laptop screen on the side). Works great since all you have to do is plug in laptop to dock, downside is all but one usb slot on the dock is free.

Here's what I would buy to convert a USB 3 cable to thunderbolt. Google hasn't helped me find the other item I was looking for, maybe you'll have more luck: I was thinking that first, you would get a thunderbolt to USB 3 converter. If you can, find one that has more than one USB 3 port. Then, you have one USB 3 port, and another being used by this adapter. If you can only find ones that have one USB 3 port, then just buy a USB 3 hub along with it. They are relatively cheap.
