Razer Hydra. It's in the FAQ at the bottom.

Well although I agree with you that oculus headset itself is superior to vive. (ok Vive has that camera, but not really important feature). However I think this is where all the advantages of oculus end....

Yes sure touch is comming but: how much will it cost? and when it will come? are the two important questions that put Vive at huge advantage. We know vive costs $300-$400 depending where you live which I think is an acceptable cost for roomscale considering the cost of Razer hydra so I believe it is quite possible that the Oculus rift will be in that ballpark or even more. The second part is the when, also I suspect the shipping will start no sooner than early next year. I could elaborate both assumption a bit further, but don't want to make this post too big.

Second is that touch is fundamentally different technology and as I learned the details of lighthouse technical details I personally believe is a better solution for roomscale (more robust against interference, easier to set up without the need of data cable, high FOV with no accuracy distortion means equals space requirement) and also more future proof with the technical ability to handle any number of custom controllers and even allowing 3rd party peripherals for example. Sure computer vision tracking that OR has has its own advantages and is probably slightly better for seated headset tracking but all things considered nope I do not see the constellation being an advantage.

And than is the important part. No it is not the shipping, which as you said is understandable with HTC having way more resources to pull the manufacturing off in a faster manner (but still 6 months?). Its the attitude!
Valve has an opensource SDK making hardware manufacturers integrate with games as easy as possible, thus helping the VR adoption. Also they even went out of their way and create their own implementation of the Oculus drivers (because they knew oculus wouldn't do it) so oculus users can enjoy games availible on steam. So if you are developer the choice is obvious, make the game availible on steam and do not worry about the hardware. Than compare that to Oculus Home which not only has no support for any other headset, they actually went out of their way to create a DRM check that requires you to connect a oculus hdm to even start any game...

PS: This is not meant to say Oculus Rift is bad or anything, in the end both vive and or are firstgen early adoption and each has its pluses and minuses and a lot to improve. But I do want to say that Oculus behaviour as a company is so bad that honestly yes I do wish for them to exist/prosper any longer.

Thanks for the input. It is unrealistic to actually get one nowadays. Look at this guy selling new for $350

  1. Build Gaming PC
  2. Get Oculus Rift
  3. Get Razer Hydra

I think you could really make anything work, but I think mouse+keyboard and controllers would be a lot closer than what a lot of people think.

Personally, I'm going to try it with a mouse+keyboard first, then my razer hydra, then I'll move onto a controller, whichever one feels best I will use.

It took me roughly an hour to teach myself to play SC2 using the hydra, I consider this to be much less of a challenge. That was actually harder than I thought. I did get better after a few days though, but I never bothered making another video.

Either way the game is going to be awesome.
